Second Guessing of the Day...China Pattern

Second Guessing of the Day...China Pattern

So now that I'm no longer second guessing my dress, I've moved on to china. I'm not a big china person...neither is FH. We decided on our initial pattern, Lenox Bellina, in about 30.3 seconds scanning the shelves at BBB and were like well what the hell why not.

So in my day of productivity today with my mother, we went to Macy's so I could finally officially go through the registry protocol and collect my Swiss Army bag LOL, and I discovered the Waterford Pattern 'Golden Apple'. It's crisp and clean and different, and I love the limey accent. Plus, I totally love the mythology aspect of it, even though when you think about it, it's the Golden Apple of Discord

I loved it so much I'm debating switching it. But BUT, the 5-piece setting doesn't come with the accent plate that actually has the apples on it, so the settings themselves are very basic and no frills. It's also more money, and since we're pretty much neutral on the subject of china anyways, and actually hope that no one buys it for us over something we really NEED, it's like do I even bother?

Anyways, I need someone to talk me down yet another ledge. Which do you prefer?

!. Lenox Bellina- classic, simple, elegant...boring?

2. Waterford Golden Apple- unique, fun, more informal, but more of a chance of growing sick of?

Hmmm...I see you dilema. They are both really nice and sooo different. If china is not a big deal for you, and you think that you would be fine with your original one than I would just stick with it. We did the casual china for the same reasons. It is nice, not super nice, but nice, and much cheaper. We figured this way we have a better chance of getting all of it, as well as other things we need. I know that this is long and all over the place so I hope this helped you!

You said it yourself... chance of growing sick of. You use china so infrequently and will probably still be using it 40 years from now. So pick something classic, that you will still like and want to use when your kids are coming over for dinner with their fiance(e)s.

The golden apple is pretty but I think the other one is more timeless.

I agree - I really like them both, but I think the first one is definitely more timeless.

I agree #1 is more timeless. I prefer things that are the platinum tones vs the gold tones ... but that is just me.

i love the waterford.....but think about when you use china....usually holidays right? so the lenox will be much easier to set your table with b/c it will match whatever 'theme' you have going on at that time.....the waterford limits you with what table clothes you can put on the table....JMO

Golden Apple: love the 5 piece place setting design, actually hate the accent plate and apples on the other pieces.

The first one doesn't really appeal to me, either. . .I think I would wind up going for the apple place settings, but not the other accent stuff unless it was as understated and classy as the place setting.

i always felt like china should have a very clean cut, simplistic pattern ... which is why i chose #1

I chose #1 because it is classic and probably will never go out of style but I too don't really care too much about my china so I chose the simpliest thing possible for myself!

It's funny that you posted this today because I just went on my registry today and changed mine too! I really like the first pattern better but I tend to go for more classic simple patterns.

You're the same as me then...I'm the kind to wear a red dress and leopard print, fuchsia, orange, and it shows in my taste for dishes....so traditional china for me is like

BUT I did show it to FH online just before, and he liked the 5 piece setting, but not the accent plate, which he said wasn't very formal or nice looking, and something that can be found in Pier 1 for a lot less money. But he was intrigued enough to want to go check it out in person, so we'll see.

I'll probably just register for the sugar and creamer for decoration LOL.

I like the waterford one but I think over the next 30+ years the Lenox is def the way to go and maybe go with something fun like the apples for the everyday stuff.
