I'm at a point where I'm thinking I may not meet my minimum and I'd like to send invitations to some acqaintances. Obviously these people will know that they weren't on my first list. I'm thinking maybe I should put a note in the invitation or something? (What to say?) Should I call ahead? How have others handled this?

Second String Invitations
So far, we've been speaking to/writing to our 'second string' invitees. We've explained that naturally we had certain obligatory invites, and enough of them have said no that now we can invite people we WANT to invite. Basically ALL of them have been very understanding and honored to be asked (and many of them are saying yes)!
