Second time and showers

Second time and showers

Just wanted to get your thoughts on bridal showers and people getting married for the second time (bride and/or groom), especially people who have lived on their own and really don't need items to set up a household. Do you still get a shower just because you're getting married? Not really supposed to have one but if people want to they can throw you one? Or is a like a baby shower - you only get one in your life? Thanks!

This is my second time and my MOH felt I still deserved a shower, we have a house together to. I think you should have one, I think a wedding is a wedding and its special regardless but thats JMO

I voted Yes, but not mandatory. It really depends on whose throwing it and their feelings on it! I would absolutely throw my friends a shower whether it was there 1st 2nd or 3rd marriage, it doesn't matter to me.

I think everyone deserves a shower whether or not you've been married before. I have heard a few women who had 'luncheons' a smaller type of shower in this case and they were really nice from what I understand.

I was actually just discussing this at a family party this weekend. The general consensus was no. Especailly if the previous weddign wasn't too long ago. Technically you don't even have to bring a gift to a second weddign if you attened the first ( although I still would) having a second shower is asking a lot.

If the bridal party really wants to do it, it should be small.

Also, you technically don't have to end a gift to a shower if you don't go, so I guess people could just not go, but most people feel obligated to send a gift anyway.

I was curious as to everyone's thoughts on this because this is my second but my FH's first. He is very traditional and thinks everything should be as if it were both of our firsts. I have been single for almost ten years, and living on my own that entire time. FH has lived alone even longer than that, so together we have just about whatever we need. His relatives keep asking about a shower, and mine don't seem to think it's necessary. I just don't want an argument about this. From the responses it seems like there is no right answer. Thanks for all your thoughts!

My vote was 'depends on the situation'. This is my second marriage and I didn't even think I'd have a shower, but my sisters and friends wanted to give me one because they knew my situation. I left my marriage with basically the clothes on my back...so, I guess they felt sorry for me, I don't know.

I don't think there are any rules...I think if your family and friends want to throw you a little shower...then why not.

I voted for depends. I am a second-time wife and I didn't want a shower. I have lived on my own for a long time and I really didn't need anything plus I didn't think it would be right. But I think it all depends on the individual situation.
