SECOND WEDDING IN A CHURCH

SECOND WEDDING IN A CHURCH

MY FH WAS MARRIED BEFORE IN A CATHOLIC CHURCH BY A PRIEST. I HAVE NEVER BEEN MARRIED BEFORE. HE DOES NOT WANT AN ANNULMENT. IS THEIR ANY WAY TO GET MARRIED IN A CATHOLIC CHURCH? I HAVE HEARD WEIRD THINGS LIKE IF WE DON'T STAND ON THE ALTAR OR IF IT ISN'T A PRIEST MARRYING US THIS TIME IT CAN BE DONE. THE CHURCH SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO. DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A LIBERAL CATHOLIC CHURCH THAT WILL MARRY US? OR DO YOU HAVE ANY OTHER SUGGESTIONS?

I'm pretty sure there is no way unless your FH gets a annulment. One thing you may be able to do is a chapel somewhere that's not really a church, my parents got married at the chapel at Old Bethpage....in the 1970's, but my Dad's annulment hadn't gone through yet and they were allowed to do that...

yeah i think he HAS to get an annulement. Some catholic churches are more lenient than others but when it comes to other things. These are the rules in the catholic religion so things like this wont change

Well it was at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration....this was obviously over 30 years ago so I have no idea if they even do that any more.....I am pretty sure it was Old Bethpage but might have been Old Westbury?

ETA: Just to clarify, this is NOT a catholic church, but can FEEL like a church wedding....

Nope. He's still married in the eyes of the Catholic Church, and any of the churches will stick to this one, it's a pretty basic rule, and they ask at your first appointment with the priest. The annulment process can take a long time, too (and is not guaranteed . . . . there are requirements) so if he's going to do it, he needs to get started.

Annulments are alot of time & alot of paperwork. It is very, very time consuming. My Dad had it done so he could marry my step mom.
You won't be able to get married in church without it.

I am sorry to tell you this, but there is NO way the Church will marry you, even a 'liberal' one, without your FH getting annulment.

Essentially, an annulment is what would be a 'divorce' in the eyes of the Church. Divoirce is the wrong word completely, but i hope you know what I mean. Without an annulment, in the Church's eyes your FH is STILL MARRIED. They will not marry someone that is already married!! Does that make sense?

Honestly, it seems to mean a lot to you and if I were you I would ask your FH to think seriously about getting the annulment. it would be closure on his first marriage and allow you to be married in the Church as a SAcrament, which seems to be what you want. It would bother me if my FH would not start the annulment process.

Also, annulments can be very time consuming, so I don't know if you've booked a hall or what not, but it might not gothrough in time. There is also a chance that even if he goes through the annulment process, it is not approved.

I would talk to your FH and then to a priest at church and see what your options are.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!
