By the time I got this book, it was too late-Lyla was already used to nursing to sleep and sleeping in my arms. I wish I had read this while I was pregnant. I think it has mostly good advice, but it wasn't practical for me. It took us several months to read her cues and know which cry is for hunger, pain, sleep, etc.

Re: Secrets of the Baby Whisperer
Yes Niha, I think I read this a little too late as well. Lyla and Sophia are cut from the same cloth I think! She is used to nursing to sleep, and I cannot imagine changing it now. She doesnt' need to nurse to nap - but really she nurses ALL day long (as we have discussed before!). This book totally goes against that.
I do wish she'd do the every 3 hour thing. i am going to try it and try to re-inforce it a little more. My girlfriends baby is 3 weeks younger than Sophia and is on the E.A.S.Y. plan and she seems to have a lot more freedom. (but she does nurse him to sleep at night as well.)

Re: Secrets of the Baby Whisperer
Jenny, I tried the EASY plan, and I have to admit she cried a lot when I tried to put her down awake, or when I tried the pacifier so it was MUCH easier for me to nurse to sleep. It is so much more peaceful in our household when I nurse to sleep rather than try anything else! It is a very natural thing to nurse to sleep.
Although, at this point she's a bit older and we have been doing a modified CIO with us by her side patting her and ssshhing her to sleep, this is more b/c if I cosleep with her she needs to nurse ALL night long. Sometimes she goes for sleeping in the crib and sometimes she doesn't. We take it day by day and just keep trying.

I agree Niha. At this point in my life - 2.5 months in, the peace is really what floats my boat more than getting her on some kind of stringent plan.

Re: Secrets of the Baby Whisperer
I have read it and would like to use the techniques. A few of my friends that have read it and followed the book since the birth of their children have had much success. Some of my other freinds have chose not to follow the structure. They felt it was too much for them. I would like to follow, but we will see how I feel and how the bambina is when she arrives.

Hmmm, never heard of this book. Damien also nurses all night long and sleeps with us. My DH is trying to get me to put him in his crib but I feel like I'm not ready I know I am starting a bad habit. We both just sleep better when we are in the same bed

Stacy, IMO if you both sleep better, than why not do it? I guess the only thing is that if you're hubby is not totally into it, then you have to discuss it with him. I know it's weird to our society, but in many cultures the parents don't sleep in the same bed for a while after a baby is born. It's just natural for the baby and mommy to be next to each other.
I should have mentioned that not only does she nurse all night long, but I have severe joint and back pain from the position that I have to sleep in.

NIHA!!! Is THAT why my joints are killing me?!!?!? When i get up in the morning, my knees and ankles are in so much pain! I never had that before, and though I figured it had to do with sleeping, you posting that you have the same problem is totally guaranteeing that!

Jenny, if you are on you side all night long, with one arm up and feel all twisted, then that's probably it! Get hubby to give you a massage!
