So we're having a timing issue with our ceremony and the reception. We have half an hour between them and it takes exactly half an hour to get between the church and reception site. So we are considering seeing eachother before hand for pictures, but part of me feels like this is wrong. Are any of you guys having your first sight of your bride be when she walks down the aisle? (stealthgroom - I've never been to a Jewish wedding so I don't know if you have the same issue or not) We have to decide to either miss atleast an hour of the reception or see each other before hand...

Re: See eachother before the wedding
Sorry to crash but maybe I can help. You just have to figure out what your priorities are between you and your FW. If it is really important for you to have that moment of seeing her for the first time walking down the aisle then you shouldn't compromise that. If you really want to be a part of the cocktail hour then take pics before the ceremony. It's all preference but it's a tough decision. Good luck!

There are different customs (minhagim) for different people. There are some Jewish communities where the bride and groom don't see each other for the whole week before. We talked over with our rabbis, who said that there was no particular tradition we should obligated or bound to...
One thing: most Jewish grooms don't see the bride for the first down the aisle, but at something called a bedeken (or veiling) due to the story of Jacob, Leah and Rebekah.
after talking to our rabbis, and advice from our caterer, we decided to bite the bullet and do pictures before the wedding. Here's why: this day is about us celebrating the start of the rest of our lives with our families. We both decided we didn't want to miss spending time with everyone at the party, and we could still have that special moment when we first see each other (just have it planned for when we arrive at the picture location). For us to have our perfect day, we want to be spending it with the folks we love, and couldn't justify missing a half hour of the reception to ourselves.
I think that's a choice you and your FW have to make... there are some folks that want the first moment to be down the aisle.
hth!

Thanks guys! We're discussing it now and trying to decide... We're going to wait till we're home to decide with the photographer what the best plan is. Especially since we don't want to miss out on much of the reception either.
I'll let you know what we decide on!

Sorry to crash! but my FH and I had this exact same problem because our ceremony and RH is in the same place, soo our photographer suggested we see eachother before the ceremony, which is fine by us. Because you still will see your gorgeous FW for the first time all dolled up, doesn't matter if its in front of eveeryone or not, plus you could ask your photographer to defiantly get a picture of that! Plus from what I've heard you look more fresh in the pictures when you take them beforehand! Well hope this helps!

Re: See eachother before the wedding
Sorry to crash but my FH and I are seeing eachother before hand. I have been to two weddings recently, one where they did see eachother before hand and one where they didn't. And without a doubt, the bride and groom who did their pictures beforehand seemed more relaxed and seemed to enjoy the ceremony more.
