had an awesome morning at my menu selection, then i call my mom to tell her we chose a dessert that i knew she wouldn't love (wanted her to not be surprised / disappointed at the wedding) ... she started fighting about it with me and i told her that i refuse to tell her anything else about the wedding, that she can just come as a guest now.
as if that wasn't bad enough, then her friend calls me up saying that i should call and apologize to my mom. that my mom is thinking of canceling the hotel room that morning and not getting ready with us and just coming when the ceremony begins as a guest. so i got mad at my mom's friend for wanting me to apologize! i did nothing wrong! i was nice enough to call and let my mom know what's up in advance ... i didn't have to call her and tell her! so why the ef should i apologize?!
i wasn't even going to post this but i'm sooooo angry that if i don't post it, my head might explode.
thanks mom & mom's friend for ruining the day for me ...

Re: seeing red
Just because it your mom, apologize for hurting her feelings and DO NOT tell her anything else about the wedding. You are almost at the finish line.
edit for spelling.

Re: seeing red
this is so weird to be posting this, but i have to tell you...my mom and i had RIPPING fights over little stuff about the wedding. Some things i gave in to, some things i held my ground on. the moral of the story is....the second the wedding was over, we both felt silly about fighting over things that didn't really matter in the long run.
apologize to ur mom, just to keep the peace... and don't tell her anything else unless u absolutely have to.
trust me, things that seem sooooo important now won't matter a bit the day after the wedding! HTH

ugh that *****! Shes been giving you unnecessary stress! First the dress fitting now dessert, and who else know the other stuff you havent posted.
Hang in there - youre not wrong. Let her stamp her feet - she will come get ready with you.
If that were me I'd call her bluff but thats just me... good luck hun!

Wow, your mom is being really unreasonable and childish. If anything she should be apologizing to you. I'm sure you're already feeling overwhelemed and stressed about the wedding, and her freaking out about something so minor as a dessert doesn't help matters.
I say try calling her and telling her that you're sorry she's hurt, but not sorry about the decision you made regarding the dessert. You can't please everyone, and you ultimately have to go with what you and your fiance want. After that, just don't tell her anything else regarding details of the wedding.
Hope things work out!

Re: seeing red
She's hurt b/c you suggested she come to the wedding as a guest, which is why she threatened to cancel the hotel room. Definitely call her and let her know you didn't mean to hurt her feelings, but you need her to be supportive right now and not give you a hard time about little things. Or big things for that matter! Don't let this fester into much more. Also keep in mind, even though she may be being a PITA, you're her baby and you're getting married! She's stressed and excited too! I'm sure she doesn't mean to stress you out...I hope .

Re: seeing red
that's insane. I just want to tell you that everyone tries to tell you what to do... especially with food. My father and FIL were guilty of it. Guess what? The two of them didn't even eat at the wedding and these are two very big guys.

Re: seeing red
thanks girls ... i suppose it's extra-hard on me because my mom and i were always extremely close and i feel like this wedding has put a wedge between us. hopefully that wedge will go away once the wedding's over.
i never would've imagined she'd be so difficult. this is the exact opposite of her personality!
i'm about to call and ask to come for a quick apology visit so we can have a face-to-face heart to heart, but wanted to thank you guys before i do that because i just am really happy to have all your support!
love you all

ITA! Moms stress out on everything at the end--I think that's she 's probably just hurt at the jab you took by telling her to come as a guest. I probably said something like that to my mom around the wedding too, but just talk to her! Her friend had no business calling, but just let that roll off your shoulder.

Re: seeing red
Thats total crap! Its a dessert. You are capable of picking a dessert by yourself and it shouldn't matter if she likes it or not. It was nice of you to even mention it to her (but I wouldn't have). She is being a total drama queen. ALSO, he friend needs to mind her business. There's no need for you to aplogize for picking the dessert YOU wanted for YOUR wedding. Your mom needs to chill out and her friend need to butt out. JMO!

Momzilla needs to relax!!!! I sure there is other dessert she can have. You do not need to apologize. I think that it was nice of you to even call her to let her know. I'm sorry she is giving you such a hard time.

Re: seeing red
I wanted to drop in and say that my Mom and I had a few BIG fights before my wedding. We also were very close and it was killing me how much of a PITA she was being. I apologized to keep the peace and I had a beautiful day with HER right by my side at every moment. Try and keep the peace and apologize for hurting her feelings. Let her know that YOU are stressed out, and that you know she is feeling it too. My mom and I were back to our close ways right after the wedding and it was great. Good Luck!

The only thing I think you should apologize for is telling her to just come as a guest. You were right to tell her the details of something ahead of time that might upset her the day of.

Re: seeing red
well i just got back from her house and let me just say that it went AWFULLY.
no progress has been made (in fact, i think we took at least 5 steps backwards) and i left crying hysterically - i don't think i've cried that hard in a long long time.
thanks mother.

Aww-don't worry. Hopefully she will come around. I'm having a little trouble with my mother too. She keeps picking fights with me. I'm trying to ignore it but it is very difficult and hurtful. The best you can do is to not let it ruin this time for you. She is the one being spiteful and missing out (thats what I say about my mom to make me feel better). In the end, she loves you--as does my mom and they will be there for us.
