Selden Area

We are looking around for houses and we found this pretty nice Split in Selden. It's North of Hawkins Road and West of Boyle Road. It's one of those developments where it borders Centereach, Port Jefferson Station and Selden. I think it's called Holiday Park. Is anyone familiar with that area? I've heard some nice and not so nice things about Selden and since we are not from this area, it's hard to us to understand the area. The house is in a pretty good condition, but it just needs some personal touches to it. We really loved it, but not so sure about the area. Can you guys give me honest opinion or FM if you wish!
Thanks so much for your help!

Re: Selden Area

I live in the area. Honestly, I don't like it, and that is why we are moving.....It is not bad but it's just not what we want. The elementary schools are great, but the highschool is horrible.

Yes, I attented Middle Country, and also did student teaching there. I don't like the highschools, bad drug problem (but that is everywhere), but like I said, the elementary schools seem to be very good from what I saw...

Re: Selden Area

one of my best friends just moved onto that road last year. SHe loves it there, it';s a quiet/nice neighborhood & she has one in school there & 2 year old twins..

it is confusing b/c she will get mail if she writes any of the 3 towns..
i was reading the post s on the HS, if you don't have any children yet, you have a few years where that would concern you, so maybe they would get better by then or you would be looking to move.
I had a few freiends that graduated from there a few years ago & they were good people...

Re: Selden Area

I lived for a few years in the area. If you are going to be in the area, there are better options. The Three Village School District is quite good.

Setauket, Port Jefferson, Stony Brook, Mount Sinai areas are all pretty decent.

I love Setauket - there are some nice high ranches for $400K for sale - GREAT schools....

Re: Selden Area

I am a selden resident and I love it. It really depends on the block you live on, I would say that 89% of the homes are well taken care of, every place you go there will be some thing. I am west of Boyle as well. If you have any other ? Feel free to FM me

Holiday Park is Selden, on or deed to the house it is labeld Holiday Park

Good luck

Re: Selden Area

There are some seedy parts of town. I would say it's a fairly safe place but not known to be a great area. I'm talking about Selden as a whole, as I don;t know the specific area you are talking about. I work nearby in Ronkonkoma, which probably has the same reputation, but I think that the Ronkonkoma area looks a bit nicer and the schools have a bit of a better reputation. Then again, both areas are huge and I don't see the whole area, just where I happen to pass through as I run errands or go to see clients who live in the area.
