self-cleaning oven...update!

Update: I've got one more hour before it is finished (thanks everyone for your help). Funny story though...I'm on the phone, and I'm breathing sort of heavy, so my friend says 'why are you out of breath', so I say, 'I don't know, but it's hot as an oven in my house'!!!! DUH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

***********************************

No laughing allowed at this question...

We bought our house in March and it has a self cleaning oven...I want to use the self cleaning function, but have no idea what to do (they didn't leave manuals for anything)...

I know how to turn it on, but what do I actually have to do to make it clean???

Re: self-cleaning oven...

hehe - I don't know how to use mine either. I just moved in a few weeks ago. Me and my mom tried and it didn't work but neither had ever used a electric oven before. We followed the directions on the oven but - no go. Luckily, my previous owners left it pretty clean (I honestly don't think it was ever used.) I have been meaning to ask my grandma - but keep forgetting.

So I need help too!

Re: self-cleaning oven...

You have to take the racks out of the oven when doing the self cleaning. Scrape off any crusted food particles that might be on the oven floor. Wipe around the gasket of the oven door. Then just close the door and hit the self clean button. The oven will lock and turn on and do it's thing. Mine takes about 2 hours. Once done you just have to take a clean sponge and wipe it out.

You might be able to do a search online for the manual.

Mine isn't electric though, it's gas!

Mine is electric, and I just take my baking stone out, hit start and let it do it's thing. Not sure that's the correct way, but the oven is sparkly clean every time.

I have one and I love it! At the end of the cycle, there is a tiny pile of ashes at the bottom of the stove and that is ALL you have to wipe!

take the racks out, and put it on. It will automatically lock so you cant opene the door. It will stop when it is done. i think it takes a few hours. It will unlock.
Let it coll a little, then go in with a sponge, and wipe it up.
It is the best

Re: self-cleaning oven...

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator, dishwasher and stove and the previous owners did not leave the manuals. I called and they sent them to me at no charge! I also ordered some replacement parts - replaced the upper basket in the dishwasher since the posts had rusted out on the old one, got new shelf pegs to replace the broken ones in the 'fridge and got some touch up paint for scratches. Whirlpool had great customer service.
