Seller Asking for Commitment Letter
Is it normal practice for the seller to contact the buyer directly for the commitment letter? Or should everything go through our lawyers to handle? Thanks!

Our seller asked for one too, but it was through the lawyer.
I guess they want confirmation your mortgage was approved. I would definitely call the attorney and let them know. Don't do anything without having the attorney know about it. That is what you pay them for. The sellers real estate agent wanted a copy of our commitment letter and our attorney told them they have no need for it and we never sent it.
how does the seller even have your contact info? everything shoould go through the attorney. i personally would not feel comfortable giving this info directly to the seller.
Don't communicate directly with the seller. That is why you have a lawyer. Trust me on this. My husband gave the sellers our contact info and they stalked us at the end. There was a hold up with the closing (totaly not our faults) and they were a real pain. They kept calling, to the point where I had to tell them not too. I would just say that your lawyer will get in touch with theirs and leave it at that.
Thanks everyone! The sellers are relocating and they found a house and needed it to get moving on their mortgage. Our lawyer is out this week and his lawyer was out so they contacted us directly. They are very nice people and I didn't think anything of it until someone said the lawyers should handle it so I got nervous. We called our lawyer's asst. and he said it was ok for us to do that.
