Thanks everyone!

He is having an adult toncilectomy today. the reason I am nervous? The Doctor! The doctor scared me when we went for the consultation. He said FH would have to spend the night at the hospital because 'they have lost too many patients when they have sent them home the same day'. When the hospital called to confirm last night they told FH that he will be going home tonight, not staying over, but needs to be watched for the first 24 hours. Now what the doctor said is playing over and over in my head!

Don't worry so much about what the doctor said. (how can you not, I know) After surgery, patients are usually put in either an ICU or under observation. To check vital signs and things of that nature...usual stuff. Those who went home the same day may have developed a high fever or infection.
It sounds to me that he really meant that patients are really so quick to go home and get out of the hospital, that they don't realize that they NEED to be in the hospital the first 24-48hrs so they can heal properly at home.

I wish your FH a speedy recovery. My prayers are with you.

P.S. Don't forget Chicken Soup...it works wonders

He did well at the hospital so they only kept him for 3 hours after surgery. He was doing better last night then he is today. They pretty much chopped off his uvula too . They were just supposted to shorten it, now he does not have one. Luckily they kept the soft palate in tact otherwise there would have been hell to pay. He is in a lot of pain and refuses to eat ice cream. Closest he will come is a protien shake. I went out last nigght and got him some Italian Ice (it's really hard to find ice that is not red or does not have citric acid). I can't imagen what kind of pain he is in
