I have aunts, cousins and very elderly grandparents from my dads side of the family that life in Washington State and FL. My dad passed away 13 years ago and we arent as close to his side of the family as we used to be. Do I send them STD's even though I dont know if they are going to be able to come to the wedding since its a long way to travel??

Absolutely!
First, theSTD is just letting them know when the wedding is. It will give them a chance to decide if they can attend the wedding and make travel arrangements.
Second, they may just surprise you by attending

Yes you do. Do not assume that people will or will not attend the wedding. Leave the decision up to them.

I sent my STDs to out of town people, my BP, and the people I want most to attend (translation: none of the people on my or FH's parent's lists!) I have too many people on the list anyway, but I figured the out-of-towners need the advance notice to make travel arrangements if they decide to come.
