I need some advice. My best friend was supposed to get married this coming August, but unfortunately, her fiance broke it off last August. I was going to be her MOH, so I would like to do something to make her would-be-wedding day special for her to help her through it...I know it's going to be tough for her. Any ideas off what we can do? Has anyone had any experience with this kind ofthing?

Re: Sensitive Issue
That is so sad.
How about taking her out for the day....doing tons of girly stuff. Manicures, pedicures...spa stuff. Or why not just take her away for the weekend? Go to Hamptons or Montauk, anything to keep her busy and have a good time with the girls!

Re: Sensitive Issue
Maybe you could get a bunch of friends together and hit the town to keep her busy. Go out to lunch, maybe go see a show, go to some clubs at night. Maybe she'll meet someone while you are out for the day and she'll forget about the ex jerk. Good Luck!

That is so thoughtful of you to want to do that for your friend! She is lucky she has you! I am sure that whatever you decide to do will keep her mind off of her ex!
Good Luck!

Re: Sensitive Issue
A very close friend of mine had this happen to her also. She was supposed to be married on 5/31. I wanted to do something with her also and she was all excited to be out and about, but when that day came, she really just needed to be by herself and sort things out - she felt it would've been to overwhelming to be out if she just needed a breather to cry or whatever. Ask your friend when the date gets closer what she would like to do. It'll be wonderful for her to know that you're there for her no matter what. JMO

Re: Sensitive Issue
She's already said that I have to be with her that weekend - she lives upstate. Of course I promised to visit her that weekend! I just wanted to be able to do something special for her. She joked about even getting a black veil and wearing it out as we go bar hopping...I did find one on ebay just in case! I guess I'll see as the day nears. It is pretty sad too since I'm planning my wedding and she's one of my bridesmaids. I feel badly everytime I talk wedding with her. She's had a tough year.

Re: Sensitive Issue
I know exactly what you mean - my friend is a BM of mine also. It's hard, but at least you're being sensitive to her situation

Re: Sensitive Issue
Sounds like a perfect spa situation to me! And then- dancing in a club and picking up hot men! I think she should be having so much fun on that day that she will forget to think of it as her 'wedding day'! And, you a such a great friend! Have fun, girls!

Re: Sensitive Issue
Oh no....how sad. The best thing you can do is whatever she wants to do...whether it's bar hopping or watching cheesy movies!

Re: Sensitive Issue
I went through the same thing a couple of years ago, and I didn't want to be reminded of what would have been. However, i knew it in my heart. She'll probably want to try and forget about it, so keep her busy. Plan something fun and take the cue from her if she wants to discuss it. Hope this helps!

Re: Sensitive Issue
Thanks so much - I guess the most important thing is that she knows she's loved and that she is surrounded by people tht care about her and will always be there for her. I admire her strength so much - the whole thing was such a shock to everyone. and she has been so great helping me with my wedding. She's an incredible person and she deserves an incredible weekend. And I love that spa idea.......

That's really nice of you... I am sure she will appreciate the thought. I say just do a girl's thing... whatever you & your friends like to do... maybe even do a spa or somehing relaxing.

Re: Sensitive Issue
You are an awesome friend!! You mentioned she is upstate. Did jerk live up there too? Maybe take her somewhere that doesn't remind her of jerk so she will have new memories with you and friends as well as maybe meeting someone. Spa, clubbing, bar hopping are great ideas.

Re: Sensitive Issue
He does live up there and they do go to a lot of the same places - but I don't think she's seen him out too much since it happened. She even moved out of her apartment because it reminded her too much of him. That's a good point though - we may want to go somewhere where he won't be...although, perhaps it would do him some good to see her out living her life and having a great time! She is a great person and he's really missing out!

Re: Sensitive Issue
a friend of mine was in the same situation a few years ago. A few of us went to Miami for the weekend (it was labor day weekend) and kept her busy the whole time with clubbing, etc. and had a great time!

Do something a bit extreme... like go get a piercing or a tattoo or bungee jumping...

Re: Sensitive Issue
You are such a good friend. I think anything you decide on will be just perfect because you are putting her first!
My girlfriends and I always love shopping and spa days when life is stressful. Chocolate is a must....
