separate church and reception??

separate church and reception??

So I'm really stressed and we haven't booked anything yet. I'm having trouble feeling very limited to a certain location because of where the church is. A lot of my family won't be able to come to where the church is, etc....

So, this is my idea: get married in the church with just a few people present (immediate family and wedding party) on the night of the 'rehearsal dinner'. Then, the next day, have a mini-pseudo-ceremony at the reception hall....

Is this crazy? FH doesn't really like it because he thinks it will take away from some of the 'special-ness' of our day (ie: which is our wedding day?)

I, on the other hand, feel a little more relaxed thinking that we won't be tied to the church's location for the actual reception, and kind of like 'yay, we'll have two anniversaries... like a whole weekend!!!'

Am I nuts?

TIA

I tend to agree with your FH - but that's just my opinion and I understand where you're coming from. Why do you think a lot of your family can't go to the church? Can you get married in a different church?

i personally do not think its a good idea. there is nothing that says that you have to have your Church & reception hall in the same area. you should choose the two places that make you happiest. who ever wants to see you get married will be at the Church no matter where it is.

Personally, I think you'd be better off doing it the opposite way. Having the ceremony at the RH and then having a smaller, intimate ceremony (or blessing of the marriage) at a church at a later date. HTH!

My ceremony will be at my church in West Hempstead and my reception will be at the Swan Club which is in Roslyn. Whoever wants to see us get married will be there, if not then I will just see them at the reception.

ita..
My church is in Bay Shore and my RH is in Westbury.. a good 30-45 min drive, depending on traffic.

where I have a plus is that my ceremony is so early and people will have enough time to make it to the hall and even go home and change or relax...

I've been to weddings where they are pretty far away from where the guests live (we're all on the south shore and the church and ceremony were on the northshore) and they had about 2 hours in between.. so as guests there was really nothing to do... drive home to sit around for 15-30 minutes just to drive back to the same area?? (it was a good 45 minutes away from my house and 90% of the other guests)

as long as the church and hall aren't like 2 hours away from each other you should be fine. just take into consideration the distance and time/traffic, etc.

I agree with the girls and your FH. Does your reception hall not have the option of having your ceremony there?

Re: separate church and reception??

Thanks girls. The church I'd like to get married in is in NJ, it's Armenian Apostolic, and my family is from CT. So far as I can see, there is no Apostolic church in CT unless I go way way up!!! I would really like to get married in a church and not at the reception hall since it is important to FH and his family.

I guess I have a lot to do. Decisions are so hard since I feel like I'm nagging FH all the time. We just talked a little bit bc I told him how stressful this is for me and how time sensitive this first part really is..... I think we are going to try and have dinner with his parents tomorrow night to discuss...

Thanks for your help!!!

if i could avoid it... i would.

but, we are getting married in october HERE. then a month later having the reception in michigan.

so, it's been done and will be done again. if you do it, you wont be alone but... it will just create more stress for you.

you gotta do double the flowers.

have your makeup/hair done twice.

photographer TWICE

a bunch of other stuff that you dont want to pay for more than once.

I agree with FH. I've been to weddings that were really far away..30-45 isn't bad. I'd keep it rraditional. Plus people will want to be at your real ceremony

I don't' understand what your concern is about the church location vs. the reception location....

your family will come to NJ from CT - I wouldn't worry about that!

I think this is a good idea. FH & I are getting married at the RH, but one day we will probably go and renew our vows in a church.

We're getting married out of state, and we didn't want all of the guests to have to find a church and then find an RH in an unfamiliar place. Not that we aren't happy with our decision, we absolutely love our officiant.
