seperated parents

seperated parents

My parents are separated and in the process of divorce

My mom wants her name on the invitation
My dad would not want Mr. and Mrs.

Fiance parents are divorced and his father remarried

I feel like it would be too many names on the invites and despite me trying to be accomodating someone is going to wind up being hurt.

I think I want to have invitation say

My name and Fiance's name
together with their parents in my invitations

Am I being unreasonable? This has been a sore spot with my mom

Re: seperated parents

DH and I were in the same situation.

We said

Together with their parents
Stacey
and
DH

Explain kindly to all the parents, that even though you want to respect everyone on the invitation, they must realize that it is YOUR wedding day and that having 6 names, not including the bride and groom is just a little ridiculous.

I explained this to all of our parents and they understood. HTH, let me know if you need more

Re: seperated parents

I am in a similare situation.

My parents are divorced and both remarried.

FH's parents are divorced and not remarried.

FH and I agree that we will put something like 'together with our parents' or 'families'.

I thought of putting just my parents names (b/c they are contributing some $) but I know FH's parents (really his mom) would get upset.

FH and I are paying (at this point) for the majority (95%) of the wedding ourselves.

Both my parents are remarried also.

We were going to do 'families' also, but then we thought it sounded too much like extended family was contributing.

Im somewhat in the same boat, my parents are together but his parents are separated, both w/ significant others but not re-married.

I dont think my parents would like it too much if we didnt include their names.....so anyone else who was in this predicament.....please share if you dont mind how you worded your invites by saying the names...

Thanks for the question on this post ...

Re: seperated parents

Both mine and my FH's parents are divorced... all are remarried.. so to include everyone on the invite, would be insane.
So even though they are contributing money... (some more than others.. )
We made the decision to just put our names on the invite. We said it early on, and we're sticking with it. Sure, I know my mom would love her name on it, but it's just not possible for one without insulting the rest of our gang.
I feel your pain!

We also did 'Together with their parents....'

Re: seperated parents

I have seen it done where an invitation reads:

Mr. Brides Father and
Ms. Brides Mother

request the honour of your presence etc.....

That generally indicates a separation or divorce.

Re: seperated parents

My sister's read

Together with their families

(her name)
and
(groom's name)

request the honor of your presence, etc.

They had similar problems with his parents. Also, my sister & brother-in-law paid the majority of the costs, so the decision was easier for them in this sense.

I think something like this is the best way to go though. You acknowledge everyone, but offend no one.

Re: seperated parents

My friend had a hard time w/ this - Her parents are married, but her husbands parents are divorced and both remarried. - So, EVERYONE's name was on the invite. - a lot of names, yes, however, everyone was happy - she personally thought it was worth it. - who really keeps the invitation nayway ?

BTW: FH's parents are divroced, our invite says
Mr. and Mrs. Frank M
and Patricia and John K
