Hello Ladies...question...I'm not really a make up person. I normally stick to eyeliner and lip stick or gloss. However; I want to look extra pretty for my e-pics, but I don't want to go over board. I wanted to know if anyone knew if either Sephora or MAC would be a better choice for creating a more subtle/natural look for make up or even neither. I've never seen anyone's make-up from Sephora, but I've seen MAC and I'm leaning towards Sephora. MAC looks a little too bold for the look I'm going for. Thanks ladies!

Re: Sephora vs. MAC
MAC scares me ... I have had my makeup partially done at Sephora before (I wanted to try out foundation, etc) and i loved how they made me look. Subtle but polished.

I've had my makeup done at Mac and it was way too much - even after I stressed that I wanted a natural look. I would definitely go with Sephora over the two.

I'm not a huge fan of MAC but I think it's a personal preference. I feel that Sephora gives you a more natural look with a dramatic eye, which is what I like.

I used to work for MAC and I think it is possible to get a less dramatic look if you ask for one- they are capable artists. But I would bring a picture for inspiration! Communication is key! Be as specific as you can- what you like and don't like!

I wonder if Bare Essentials does any of this make over stuff. I think out of all of them.. their make up is the most natural looking.. does that make sense..

YES! If you go to the BE Boutique in Roosevelt Field they will do it! I went one day because I always thought I was wearing the wrong color foundation, and they put me in the right one. That same day I also said I wanted to try out the smokey eye look, and they did that for me also.
And to answer the Sephora vs. MAC question, I am partial to Sephora. I also feel like MAC can be a little over the top sometimes.

MAC is scary as I left there once looking like an 80 year old I had so much foundation on. But I have learned to tell them I don't want any and to just use a tinted moisturizer. I like how they do eye make up though. I think any counter would be willing to do your make up as long as you buy something.

I agree with the other ladies MAC does a very bold look. I recently went to a wedding and I wanted my makeup done so I went to the Bobbi Brown counter in the Bay Shore Macys and had a great experience there.

See I am so clueless about make up I didn't even know about Bare Essentials...I'll probably stop by there this weekend and check it out.

MAC used to scare me too, and I always buy my makeup in Sephora, but I never liked the way my makeup came out in Sephora at all.. The one time I got my makeup done in MAC it came out really well though. I feel like the girls in Sephora just aren't trained as well at the ones in MAC- the girls in MAC just seemed like they knew what they were doing more than the ones in Sephora but that's just my experience!

I'm a huge make-up girl (wear it every day & rarely leave the house without everything done) and I absolutely hate the way MAC does makeup. I think the above poster is correct in saying that they are capable artists, but you need to communicate. Most of the girls that leave there look like clowns or older than they actually are - not all, but most I've seen.

futuremap gave great advice...I'm researching looks online for inspiration. I'll take the winning pic with me for whoever I chose.

I wear MAC daily but I agree they cake it on when you have them do it. I am doing e pics next weekend and was wondering the same thing. Does Sephora in Smith Haven Mall do makeup if you just walk in??

You might want to call ahead just to make sure they have someone there, but usually you can just walk right in.

Sephora 100% so many more options I feel and something for everyones skin. they also have such amazing lines of skin care that you can find something perfectly fit for you and your skin type.

I definitely prefer Sephora. IMO theres a better variety and you get a more subtle look. Good luck!
