serious pcos question

Has anyone been diagnosed with pcos without actually having cysts on their ovaries? My doctor recently told me she thinks I may have this but I dont actually have any cysts which I dont understand? Anyone else?

I have PCOS, but when I was diagnosed, I had the cysts. Now, I still have PCOS, but I don't always have cysts on my ovaries. I am not sure how to explain it, but the cysts don't always have to be there. You may want to check out www.soulcysters.com, it is a great site with so much informaiton.

Me! Me! Me!

It's not such a terrible thing to live with, but I hope you don't end up with that as your diagnosis.

Feel free to ask any questions.

If you don't mind my asking, what did she recommend that you do?? My sister was told that she 'probably' has it, too, but according to her, she was not told to follow up or do ANYTHING. My sister is very overweight and has a lot of body hair. I am very concerned about her and about this probably diagnosis that was supposedly thrown out there and then dropped.

I was wondering, since you got a probably diagnosis as well, what recommendations your doctor made.

Your sister needs to see a different doctor. She should be checked for insulin resistance, and if she has that she should be taking Glucophage. Also there are other medications she can be taking to help with the side affects you are describing that she has, being overweight and the excess body hair.

Becky, my last gyn did the same thing.

You sister needs to see a different doctor. There are lots of things she can do to make herself more comfortable in her own body, such using low dose BCP, controlled diet, and exercise plans.

to your sister!

Re: serious pcos question

Thank you Liz and Jenn. I am going to talk to my mom about it tonight. My sister is so sensitive about her appearance and I have a difficult time discussing these things with her because I have always been thin and because she tends to burst into tears and leave the room. I am so worried though. A few years ago she had two seizures within two weeks and no one could come up with an explanation other than her sugar level crashed, but that she had no diabetes type of problem.

Ever since I read about pcos on this website I have been convinced that she has it and harassing my mom about getting her to a doctor. I finally found out a few weeks ago about the probable pcos and I printed out some of the info you ladies have posted to give to my mom. My sister is young (just turned 21) and not only is she the baby, she is babied, so I am very concerned that she will not address this issue without pushing from my mom, who hasn't been to a doctor for a check-up since right after my sister was born

You know what, I am going to go send an email to my mom right now! Thanks for your advice
