He has a horrible infection in his tooth and he has no insurance and he's super low on cash and so am I since I haven't worked in a month. He called some walk ins, but they're expsnsive, and the Stony Brook Dental CLinic but they aren't seeing patients until next month.
He needs to see someone about this as the Clindamycin he was able to get his hands on, while theoretically appropriate, is not working. He's in a lot of pain and it's been a number of days now.
Any ideas for him? We'd both really apreciate it.

Re: Serious post: Can anyone help my brother?
This actually just happened to me and I don't have any dental insurance.
I don't know which tooth it is in your brother's mouth, but mine was the second to last one from the back left side on the bottom.
I went to my regular dentist to have a root canal done and I couldn't handle having a temporary in the tooth because of the infection. I was put on Clindymicin but it wasn't doing anything. My doctor told me my only other option was to do an extraction/implant or bridge otherwise if they closed up the root canal it could still give me pain and then they'd have to do a major surgery to relief in the pain and probably pull the tooth anyway.
I went to Dr. Barry Bass in Plainview and had the tooth extracted. It was $275 to have it removed plus $100 for anesthesia (though I think he regularly charges $250 for anesthesia, but my family uses him a lot). It was $150 just for x-rays and a consultation with him, but well worth it. The wound is completely healed now (4 weeks later) and now I have two options: get a bridge (less expensive) or get an implant and crown (which puts the whole procedure around $3500).
HTH Tell your brother I FEEL HIS PAIN!

What about NYU Dental School? They're always advertising on tv about how you can go there and the students will treat you under the eyes of a dentist. It's probably more affordable than a regular dentist.
I'm pretty sure LIJ has a dental clinic...here is the general number for dental, you can try calling and asking them (718) 470-7120.

The Dentist i used before i got insurance is in Maspeth if that is any good. He is very reasonable. For a root canal 1 think he charged $250 or $350 i cant remember which. With another dentist i got charged $650.

Clindamyacin is the correct treatment but if it has become an abscess he needs more help...
i'd just take him to the ER, they may be able to drain it there, and they can apply him for emergent medicaid to pay for the bill.

I was going to suggest the ER because they can not turn you away and most of the time you can apply for aid on having to pay them back

healthplex.com
its a low cost dental insurance.. he will pay like 1-200$ for the year. it covers visits, 2 cleanings and xrays. everything else is DEEPLY discounted.
tell hi to get it. and get the work done. then,by the time he gets billed, he will have enough money saved to cover the cost

I had to have 3 teeth pulled last month 1 because of the infection 2 because they were wisdom teeth. I defiantely felt his pain.
A hospital is the best bet. If you go to Nassau Medical Center (not that great a repuation but the dental office isn't bad) It was $100 to secure an appointment with the dentist and they bill you the rest. It at least will get him the antibiotics and pain killers to get rid of the infection and make him comfortable.
