Serious question to ask

Serious question to ask

What would you do if you found out that a family member was molested by another?

My FH's cousin just found out that an uncle molested his daughter. Apparently she has been giving some trouble I thought it was basic teenager stuff, like coming home late, not listening. Who didnt do that?
She is 17 and apparently this happened when she was around 10-13. They lived in the 2 family house with the uncle and he'd watch her for them. It stopped when they moved away. No one thought anything of it because he is family. Some how it came out! Her father went balistic and nearly killed the uncle (it took at least 5 people to get him off the uncle). Some of the family (small amount) kind of figure that she shouldnt have said anything especially since it happened so long ago. These are not the thoughts of everyone trust me. I dont know if they are looking to press charges or what ramifications will result if any.

Just wanted to send some prayers her way. It is a hard thing to have to deal with molestation and the effects vary from person-to-person. I just feel really bad for her

I think that no matter what happens to the uncle, they should get the girl some help. She will need to start some therapy, otherwise it will probably affect every relationship she has in the future.
Good luck and my prayers are with you and your family...

Wow! Sorry to hear such news. The child should definitely start some therapy. I have a friend who molested as a child when he was 13, he's now 33 and is still in therapy. It affects your life forever. I hope she'll get through this difficult ordeal.

My gosh, thats horrible. I would suggest couseling as well. She has suppressed and kept this a secret for quite some time, so her troubles are most likely from her terrifying experience that she kept from everyone for soo long. It's not her fault what so ever. Any adult, let alone family that takes advantage and violates a child that way should be punished to the fullest extent possible. My thoughts are with you

I agree. and I think they should press charges, because child molesters don't stop hurting kids.... maybe she can help this from happenign to another person.

Definitely get her into counseling.... prayers to you and your family...

Thats awful, I think she should definitely start therapy-as a few others said it is something that will effect her her whole life. And whether it happened yesterday or 50 years ago she should NOT have kept it from anyone!

Sending prayers her way-and for the family!

IMO , first maybe get some therapy or conseling for her, & then castrate the uncle..

Its not her fault & he very well knows what he did to her a long time ago, he is lucky he got away with it for this long ,,

Re: Serious question to ask

press charges so that it is on the uncle's record...so that it wakes people up so that he doesn't do it to any other children!!!!! Then, get the girl some help so that she can know it wasn't her fault, and she'll have some support and someone to talk to.

Definitley press charges. No one should EVER do that to a child, and should be punished for it. If it had been a next door neighbor, it doesn't change the fact that the girl was hurt. Even if it was an uncle, he shouldn't have direspected her body and the family. He should be punished.

I think that she should have said something. The sad thing is that there is child molestation going on out there and it is usually a close relative or babysitter.

The molesters use the fact that they are family to their advantage. Leading the child to believe that no one would believe her or him if they were to go to an parent or other adult. Its a horrbile thing to see or find out. Charges should be brought up on the uncle and she as well as well as the parents should receive counceling.

MY prayers go out to her and her family

Re: Serious question to ask

I'm so sorry to hear this, and my thoughts are with your family.

I had a similar situation with a cousin. She was molested by an uncle when she was little, and it didn't come out until we were in our teens. It took her a while and some regretful incidents, but now she is doing great. She's married, happy, and going forward with her life. She went through some therapy and had a lot of friends and family to talk to. Definitely make sure she's surrounded by loved ones, and has someone to talk to - preferably a professional.

What a horrible situation. I agree w/ the other ladies that the most important thing is to get her some professional help. Counseling will help her cope with the trauma and allow her to deal with the feelings she's been keeping suppressed. My heart goes out to her and I hope she decides to press charges against her molester.

That has to be one of the worst situations to be in. I pray for that girl that she can overcome this terrible ordeal that she had to go through.
