Serious Vent on Macy's (I was at Macy's Manhasset)
My drama/vent:
So I work in the City and can’t take a day off (each day is saved for the honeymoon). I called to schedule my first appt and they wanted me to come in on a weekday. When I said no, they scheduled me for a weekend, no problems right?
Ok, so I go in and ask for my seamstress Fay (the lady who helped me pick my gown and said she’d fit me). They say ‘no, she doesn’t do fittings on Saturdays, you can reschedule for Wednesday.’ This is where I get prissy in front of all the customers telling her how stupid it is to have me have to come back and that brides don’t have all day for this sort of stuff. She says I can’t have Fay because the woman who pins you does the dress. So what can I do?
I wait nearly 20mins for my fitting. Stupid, as my dress was already pulled. Ok, I fit my dress perfectly, no taking in, no letting out. I have a different seamstress. All she’s doing really raising the hem, adding cups and securing my off the shoulder sleeves. So I was in and out in practically no time. The seamstress lady says “see me in September on Tuesdays or Thursdays”. (PS: I can NOT gain a pound)
Ok this ticks me off. Why in God’s name give me to a seamstress who works weekdays when I’ve repeatedly and angrily noted to you that I can NOT come in on weekdays. So the seamstress (bless her heart) says “come in late, I see you” I told her I’d have to check my schedule first but I’d get back to her. So she says that’s it. I’m dressed and ready to go and she says bye so I leave. What would YOU do?
So I leave, grab Jim and we have lunch. As I’m sitting in a subway place (across from Nassau Coliseum) I notice I got a voicemail. Well don’t you know it’s the snippy lady from the Macy’s place saying how I “left without making an appt” and how I “MUST call her back because no one will work on my dress until I do”.
So I call her back and basically say no way I can just pull a date out of my head. I have work to consider. She says “Well, understand no one will begin working on the alterations to your gown until you choose a date, so you must give us a date now”. Now I’m getting more and more angry. Why should I make up a date I don’t intend to keep, Especially when I TOLD her I could only do weekends. So I ask “Are you the same girl I ‘spoke’ with earlier today? White shirt, hair pulled back in a clippie?” …… “yeah”…… “well WHY do you have to be so rude? Don’t you get it, I can’t just make this stuff up, you have to wait. I want this dress done MORE than you do!” So I tell her I’ll have to call her back and that’s the best I can do and before I can say thank you (Cause that’s how I end a call) she hangs up on me!
Lesson Number One for all Vendors. DO NOT HANG UP ON A BRIDE!
So I grab Jim and say “We’re going to Macy’s”. I want blood. Mostly I just want my dress back (it’s paid in full) give me back my money for alterations I don’t NEED you or your hassels, I can go elsewhere. Namely, I can have Fay on weekends in private on my own even if it costs me more.
I walk in piping mad. The girl with the clippie is hanging out in the back when I ask “Who’s the manager around here” She heard me looked out, sighed and folded up her magazine like “oh yeah, it’s her”. I told the manager I will NOT stand to be treated as a nobody when I spend $1550 in her store especially I will not stand to be hung up on by a prissy child with no manners. This grabs the attention of the little miss in the back. She comes out “I didn’t hang up on you”. Please! I told her she can wipe that innocent look off her face cause frankly I don’t give a damn, she did hang up on me and it was the WORST move she could make. I made it clear this ‘child’ is not to touch my gown, my paper work or to EVER call me again.
Now I have the whole darned group of Macy’s employees out. Jim is just standing there as he says with a face that says “You’re on your own guys, you ticked her off”. I explained again how I don’t find it reasonable to come in on weekdays, period. How stupid is it to put me with any seamstress you KNOW doesn’t work weekends? Apparently the manager never got all this before from Miss Clippie, who admitted she didn’t pass on the info. Manager got my paperwork and changed my appt and made a note that Miss Clippie shouldn’t call me again. Apologized for the trouble and wanted me to be calm and happy for my ‘day’.
My only regret, more brides weren’t around. The first time I got fussy the mothers of the brides were standing at the counter agreeing with me. The second time I went in, no one was there!
I got my appt right but I am still angry. 12months I’ve been planning my wedding and right now I hate the dress!!!! This little B!tch ruined what should have been an exciting day for me.
Moral of the story: Whine loud enough Macy's will do weekend fittings.
