Can someone tell me what this is??? On one of the Tipping threads it mentioned to find out if you're being charged a service charge. Is that the gratuity??? Maybe that's the gratuity for the waitstaff and we just tip the maitre'd that night? I know we tip the maitre'd, but what about our banquet manager? I really just want to give everyone $50 bucks and call it a night! Is that so horrible???
at ours we had the service charge included in the price per head. I think service charge is gratuity...

Re: Service Charge at RH???
Sorry in most RHs its not a gratuity and the maitre'd and waiters never see a dime of it. Its usually charged for overhead costs. Its actually a sneaky way of making your cost person higher that is legal. Not all places are like that so ask your RH who directly gets that 20 percent and if you are still expected to tip the waiters and maitre'd who are working hard to make your party wonderful.

Re: Service Charge at RH???
generally the service charge is kinda like gratuity because it 'supposedly' goes to all the staff who dont get tips the night of the wedding (like the coat check person, waiters, bathroom staff etc). the can call it a service charge and not gratuity so they can tax it. some RH's differ, so check with yours. all the RH's i visited recommended that we tip the matre'd $3-5 per person. plus the service charge!

Re: Service Charge at RH???
Generally the service charge is between 18 and 20% and yes it's taxed. It's considered the 'tip' for waiters, bartenders, valet, bathroom attendants, etc. The maitre'd is the only one you have to tip the night of.
