Anyone have the service charge included in the price of their RH? If so, would this mean you don't tip anyone at the RH? I'm confused!

Re: service charge included?
I think some RH's call it a service charge & others call it gratuity.

There is a service charge included but i still think a tip is necessary esp for the Maitre D and bridal attendant.

Yes--FH thinks i'm crazy, and I don't think a huge tip is necessary, but maybe something for extra effort? Do you tip the bridal sales manager? No, right?

One place recommended 300 for the maitre'd & 150 for the bridal attendant but left it totally up to us. No for the bridal sales manager.

But, was your service charge/gratuity included?

Wow! Is this common? Anyone else have this experience? I'm surprised they told you how much to tip...

I don't think it's common. This happenend at only 1 of the RH's I went to visit. The place I actually booked at made no mention of how much to tip the maitre'd or bridal attendant. But did state it was customary to tip them after explaining what they did for the day.

thanks--what was the price per head you were looking at? What was the size of the wedding?

For the place with the 'recommended' tip it was January 2009 at the price of $75.00 per person with 125 person minimum not including tax or the service charge on a Saturday night. Pretty small wedding by most standards.

Re: service charge included?
Our hall includes a gratuity charge (18%) which I was told would go to the waitstaff. They have not mentioned a tip for the bridal attendant or maitre d' but we will tip them - $300 and $150 sounds like a good amount. I don't believe you have to tip the banquet manager.

I would find out whether that 18% they claim goes to the waitstaff is their pay or a tip on top of the pay. When I waitressed, the managers always told the bride/groom/father that the 18% went to us, so they thought we were getting huge amounts of money. We didn't - we were paid $75 for the entire wedding (about 7-8 hrs worth of work) and that was it, nothing extra. So we were never tipped for the extras we performed.
If you were thinking of tipping the staff, find out for sure where that 18% goes - most call it service not gratuity because it isn't a tip.

yes its in our contract how much to tip maitre'd, and alot of others ive seen on the boards say the same thing.
The service charge is to cover salaries of employee's and also other services provided to you by the RH. Tips are not included in the service charge

Re: service charge included?
you might find the official tipping thread, among many others on this topic, very useful for info like this.
from what i understand, $3-5 per person is expected for your matre'd. my RH gave me a sheet with 'average' amounts for each person to be tipped. others on there included the banquet manager, the bridal attendant, bar tenders (if guests are not tipping), and valet people (if guests are not tipping).
i say give what YOU are comfortable giving.

That's not what I was told by people who work in the industry. Maybe it depends on the hall.
Our hall did not include a tip in our contract, nor did they suggest an amount to tip, actually none of the halls I looked at mentioned any charges like that, don't know if they would if you're not actually booking though.
