I have heard of service/gratuity charges starting at 12%, up to 21%. Does anyone know what is typical for this charge and is it negotiable?

Almost all RHs I looked at it was 20%

My RH had an 18% gratuity charge but then we had to pay a $3/$4 gratuity charge for the Maitre' D.

Most we looked at were 15%, some were 18% and this usually is not negotiable. However, the price per person is, so you can negotiate for a lower pp price to offset the tax and gratuity charge.

I have never heard of the percentage being negotiable, that's usually set on an RH by RH basis. Mine is 18%, and I'm pretty sure that's the standard.

Most of the places I went were 18%.
But don't forget that you get taxed for the gratuity.
