Setting up a bar?

Setting up a bar?

That's what I am trying to do for my wedding... but I don't know what kind of liquor or wine is most popular... or how many drinks can be made from one bottle.

Any suggestions?

Your best bet is to ask the people who are working at the liquor store when you go to buy, or before you buy. They're usually pretty knowledgeable about the most popular of whatever and how much you'd need to buy for however many guests you're having. Give them a call. Also, keep in mind specifically if you happen to have maybe an important guest who just LOVES a certain type of drink or brand. For example, my FH loves Grey Goose, so we had to make sure the RH served it. His 'boys' love Heineken so we made sure that was one of our bottled beer choices.

Hope that helps!

Hope I can help...I'm a bartender!

The basics...

Vodka, Rum, Gin, Tequilla, Scotch, Cordials (maybe some sambucca & a cognac)

I would have at least reg. vodka and citron (good for drinks & cosmos & other mixes)

Rum: Plain & a malibu type

Triple Sec: (cheap, used in a lot of cocktails)

Gin: basic, same w/ Tequilla

At least one reg beer and one light beer...

Wines...here are your basics (and some good cheap ones!)

Red: Merlot & Cabernet (Woodbrige makes a decent cheap one!)
Pink: White zinfindel (go Sutterhome or berringer)
White: Chardonnay (again Woodbrige)
Pinot Grigio (santa marina is cheap and decent!)

To cut back on liquor use...think of getting some premade mixes like for cosmos, mohitos, margaritas, long island iced teas....Then the flavor is in the mix, not so dependant on the alcohol and instead of 5 liquors for an LIT, you'll use one!

But these basic selection should please most people! Hope this Helps!

Re: Setting up a bar?

ooooo...just had another idea while I was in the shower...LOL!

You know those huge glass things with the pourers on the bottom?? Like you see in a fancy restauant filled with fruit & liquor?? You can get them pretty cheap @ most department stores (kohls has them)...

You can fill them with different mixed drinks....

A cosmo one, margarita, LIT, sangria, apple martini, ect... have pretty signs made up and use them to pour drinks...

The best part...You can make a ton of drinks using not so much liquor!!!

I can help you with recipes if you need!

HTH!

oooh.. great ideas girls!

I was actually thinking of limiting the alcohol by simply having a few signature drinks, the champagne toast, beer and wine.

I am still unsure of how many 'typical' drinks you can make say out of one bottle of rum. I know wine averages 6 glasses per bottles... I would assume it is a bit less with liquor, as it is most often mixed with something else, correct?

You girls are the best!

Wine is closer to 4 glasses a bottle, unless you go for the magnums...

Like a rum and coke?? Depends on whose making them...the guests or a bartender?? The guests will def. pour themselves heavier drinks then a bartender!
