Sewing an evening bag...

Sewing an evening bag...

I just picked up my MOB gown for my daughter's wedding, which will be in less than three weeks. I've searched for the past 6 months and now I have to do something drastic. I have a piece of dress fabric measuring 16 X 24 inches. That is definitely enough to fold in half (to give it a matching lining), and to make a bag. I just am not sure how. Any help would definitely be appreciated.
I also have four spaghetti straps that match the dress. The seamstress was a doll and really tried to help me out, but they are 22 inches each, too short for a strap for the bag. Maybe someone crafty can tell me how to join them so they don't look horrible.

Thanks.

MAYBE you can make it a drawstring bag so that the part of the straps that are sewn together wont show?

and no shoulder strap, right? I'd carry it like those gals from the roaring 20's, twirling it as I go. (I'm just so relieved the dress turned out okay, I'm being silly. Sorry!)
Your suggestion sounds really good and something easy to sew. I just may do that if someone doesn't come up with another idea to consider. Thank you.

PS I love your picture. You are a beautiful girl!

what about making an envelope bag? you know, a rectangular shape with a flap closure?

Cocoa, I would LOVE to do that. Do you know how? I wouldn't know what to put between the lining and the fabric to make it stiff. And what about a closure?
Thanks for any advice on this.

Can you use the fabric to cover a bag in a shape you already like?

You can use INTERFACE btw the lining and fabric (its white and comes in different weights) you can find it at a fabric store or craft store or even in Walmart in the fabric section.
you could even buy a pattern there for guidance.

good luck

also at these stores they should sell closures,
snaps, buttons, hooks etc.

best of luck

This sounds like a good idea. And it would be good to see if you can find one with a chain strap instead of fabric. You could use the spaghetti strap to make a small bow to glue on or add trim.

There are some really good suggestions here ladies. I really appreciate all your help. If not this week-end, for sure I'll find something to work this next week. Not much time left! I'll let you know how it goes.
Thanks again.
