Re: Shaping up for the wedding

I am doing Yoga for many reasons, but a bonus is that you get more of a lean tone to your muscles and definition in the arms...

Plus, it alleviates alot of pre wedding stress.

Re: Shaping up for the wedding

FH and I just started going to the gym in prep for our Oct wedding.

I do Pilates and Yoga for fun and he started showing me some arm/back/chest exercises with weights -- I figure that's the area that needs to look good since I could fit a large dog under the skirt of my dress.

I'm just worried that using weights will bulk up my arms when all I really want to do is tone them.

I might do some sort of bride workout when it gets closer to the wedding date. I know NYSport offers a 20 week bride workout, but I'm not sure if that's a group thing or hiring a trainer.

I'd love to have workout buddies -- any brides in the city out there???

I really like using the elliptical machine and taking classes. Pilates is a great class. My gym offers bellydancing! I have never taken it but it is supposed to be really good.

I think I am just going to do some weights and cardio classes.

i am doing something similar - just use LIGHT weights with ALOT of reps and you won't bulk the muscles.

I am in the city, but I belong to a low-budget gym - are you at NYSC?

Low-budget gym? In the city? Sounds right up my alley! Any chance you can share some info on the place? I'd really appreciate it!

I go to the gym atleast twice per week. I am thin already but I want to tone up my stomach for the honeymoon. I have a long time to go so its fine. I have a workout tape at home that I like to use though its for abs and arms

I do cardio (usually the elliptical) for 45 - 60 min. about 6 days a week. Also do weights every other day. 20-30 lbs....3 sets of 15 reps on each major muscle group. i find the weights are easier to do then the elliptical b/c i get bored, but i hate weightlifting.

Re: Shaping up for the wedding

I'm not gym savy...however I have lost 116 pounds since I got engaged. This summer I hired a Personal Trainer...I didn't care about the cost, because I want this just as bad as getting married.

Since starting with him, I lost 70 pounds. We only do 1 set on the machines...very slowly...he calls it 'sets 'til fatigue'. I meet with him 2x a week and the other 4 days, I do cardio, mostly treadmill.

I have sooo much energy!

Good luck finding your plan.

Re: Shaping up for the wedding

I've been into the running scene since a few months before I got engaged actually. I do monthly or bi-monthly 5ks and will soon up it to a 10k - the races keep me motivated.

I also need to start doing a lot more in the weight room now because I want my arms and back nice and toned for that sexy white dress

Ooops--Yeah--forgot about that...it has finally become a habit. Smaller portions, and I always leave something on the plate. I eat everything, just in moderation (I don't deny myself). I eat the protein first, and if I'm still hungry, I'll eat the carbs. (there is always room for them )
