shared banquet room

shared banquet room

I am curious if any of you have been to an event or are having an event where one huge room is being separated (sound proof temporary wall) to accommodate two separate affairs. Does this work OK in terms of noise level, ppl finding the room after going to a common bathroom etc? Out of all the wedding fears this is my biggest I think! Were having a band and Im worried that we might hear the music in the other half of the room. Or our guest will go into someone elses room after returning from the bathroom.

I am having a wedding at Crest Hollow next October 20th and although am not at all sorry for booking this hall (b/c Ive heard some really great things about it) I am a bit worried about the whole scene with so many weddings going on at once there.

Also does anyone know if Crest Hollow allows smoking in the banquet rooms?

Thanks.

I chaparoned a prom there and b/c of the size of the school there were over 1000 people there they needed the entire upstairs of Crest Hollow (which is normally divided...so I would think when they separate the rooms (like they do almost everyday) they would be sound proof...Look into the set up of the room and put the band next to the wall so that nobody will hear the other rooms band.

My wedding was at Crest Hollow

And, I had one half of the banquet room upstairs. I don't want to feed your fear, but during part of our reception, we did hear the other side's music. It was during our toasts, where there was no music of our own. Otherwise, the rest of the time, we did not hear them at all. I did complain, and they said it was because the DJ on the other side was set up incorrectly, but I'm not so sure. Go over it again with them.

Also, with respect to guests going into the wrong side, I heard of no one at my wedding who did that.

Otherwise, don't worry - you chose a great place to have a wedding, and you won't regret it! I loved it there, and didn't see any other wedding, or any other bride while I was there. The food is great, and the service is wonderful. It was a truly elegant affair!

I also don`t mean to feed your fear but I believe you are looking for honest answers. I have been to a few weddings with the partitions and the 'soundproof' partition is never quite what the catering hall claims it to be. I don`t know if the other room`s music would necessarily interfere with your wedding, more likely that the tables closest to the partition would hear the other music. With holiday parties coming up, maybe you can check with Cresthollow about stopping by the check it out for yourself while there is partitioned room situation going on (your presence would probably be less invasive at a holiday party than someone`s wedding) As for the guests finding the room again on the way back from the powder room, I`d hardly worry about that. I`m sure they would realize rather quickly if that error occurred (unless they have too many drinks LOL). Good luck.

Thanks! As for Banquet Managers...

Chris - the Banquet Manager I'm dealing with at Crest Hollow is nice but I always get the sense when I talk to him and ask him questions that he'll say yes to anything and just wants to get me off the phone. How will I know he'll be true to his word the day of my wedding...or that he even will be able to do anything should certain situations arise? I feel like once the contract is signed and the deposit is down...they don't really want to deal w/you.

I keep having these bad thoughts that everything that happens on the day of my wedding is totally out of my control...I'm just placing trust in so many other people!

Whoa!! You have contracts with these people and you have rights and when you are paying all this money, you will be heard. When is your wedding? If it is not so close, you will see that you will get more focus from your banquet manager as it gets closer. However, they should be answering all your questions and don`t concern yourself with if he seems like he is in a hurry. State your questions and concerns anyway and if you don`t get a clear answer, press him a little more. Try not to get angry or upset. Same applies to your other vendors. Instead of calling them every time your have a question, make a list and call them when you have a few questions. It makes more sense for you and the vendor to discuss a few things per call. As for your wedding day, after all the contracts are signed, plans are made, plans are gone over a few times, songs & flowers & menus are chosen, my best suggestion is to try and let it all go on your wedding day and enjoy every moment. For every 'horror story' out there, there are hundreds and hundreds of weddings that go off without a hitch (except for the couple getting hitched LOL) so try to relax and bit and not stress yourself out. Best wishes!

My wedding is also at Crest Hollow, in the Suburban room, which is 1/2 the banquet room upstairs. I had the same concerns. When I was there, I asked a couple of times about it, and they told me that they place the bands/djs back to back so they play out to their own guests, not into the other room. Plus, they just did a major renovation on that room, and I am hopeful that with all the money they spent they didn't scrimp on the soundproof wall. Also, another thing, if they were just two rooms back to back, would you ever have even thought of this problem? Also, they may not even book the other room for that night, anyway. That would be the ideal.

I guess this is the price we pay for going with a place that has more than one affair. I don't know about you, but I just loved the room, and I looked at about 7 different places.

Thank You Elizabeth!

Your post really did make me feel better thank you so much everyone for all the good advice - I feel so naive sometimes.

I'm just worried that I'm forgetting things on contracts (no matter how much obsessive research I seem to be doing) and that little details like noise cross-over in a partitioned room cannot be put on contracts...or can it?

Like for example I signed the contract with the wedding photographers (Photography by Verdi) and then was telling my dad who said well what happens if it rains on your wedding day will they re-shoot pictures another day? And of course that was yet another thing I forgot to ask the photographers and did not have put on the contract!

I guess it would help if I had more married friends to give me advice...but thats why I have you all!

Thanks so much for your responses.

Thanks Kris..but

Ya know what I find frustrating? That Chris my Banquet Manager said he couldn't tell me until the day of the wedding if there would be another party in the other 1/2 of the room. My room is called the Empire room is that the other side of the Suburban room?

The room was nice...I wanted really to get married at one of the LI mansions but it was way too expensive for me... just to rent out the place! Crest Hollow certainly gives you alot for your money which I think is fabulous. Hey are you having your ceremony there as well?

We are and hope for the outside space which I do think is really nice!

Lauren? Does CHCC decorate the wall partition?

Or is it just a fake wall put up there...and how do they separate the big room dance floor?

I really do need to go back to Crest Hollow and see the room again...it's hard b/c my fiancee and I both live in Manhattan.

There is no way to soundproof rooms in these halls.
Very often the entertainment doesn't choose where they want to set up but are told where to go. Your concerns are definitely warranted.

The partition...

Honestly, I don't remember exactly how it looked, but I think they close a curtain in front of the wall, so you don't even see the wall at all. It looked gorgeous whatever they did. But I seem to remember (almost positive) that there was a beautiful curtain in front of it.

Re: shared banquet room

I was at a fundraiser at Crest Hollow last month in the upstairs room, and there was another party going on, and honestly, on the complete opposite side of the room, I was able to hear the music from the other party. I don't want to alarm you, as it could be possible that they didn't completely 'soundproof' the room, i.e., the divider may not have been closed all the way or the door may have been open - I don't know. However, what does concern me is that they told you they couldn't know until the day of your wedding if there would be another party there. That's ludicrous! I would ask to speak with a different BM to get more definitive answers.

You can hear. Trust me. You can hear. Especially since the band will take brakes, you will definately hear the music on the other side. Not to add fear to you either, a lot of halls have this partition, and it doesnt do any good. When you do the toast, you will hear, during dinner when the music is lower key- you will hear. See what you can do...

Re: shared banquet room

my friend got married there last year. she had a band and the other room had a dj. you could hear the dj when the band took breaks. the dj was too loud in my opinion. perhaps you can talk to the bm about your concerns again. if you dont get thru to him ask to speak to someone in a higher position. good luck!
