Shawl or jacket?

Shawl or jacket?

I have time to worry about this but I wanted to get opinions.

I can't go sleeveless, so I had the store order an extra 3 yards of fabric (her recommendation of amount) so they could make either a shawl or jacket.

Which do you think will look better, this is a pix of me in the dress.

Any suggestions welcome :)

Oh well, I was going to attach the other pix but it wouldn't work, another pix of the dress is in my info, not with me wearing it.

I love a shawl- its more versatile and you could probably use it over other dresses in the future and then have the memory of your big day.

i think it depends on what you're most comfortable with.
if you cant go strapless b/c of the church but want to be strapless for the reception a shawl is probobly the easiest thing to do.
but if you want to be covered all night a jacket is more comfortable in my opinion.

I would prefer a shawl.
Do you have to have your shoulder's covered for the ceremony, or are you doing this just to cover your arms ?

Re: Shawl or jacket?

For the ceremony I have to have my shoulders covered. That's a religious thing.

Plus, my mother has basically forbidden me to go sleeveless, and i'm not that comfortable with it either since I don't want my 'arm fat' to be hanging out all night. I don't think it will look good in the pictures.

I'm probably going to end up waiting to see what she shows me when the dress comes in.

My problem is:

a) I'm a little afraid that if I do a shawl, i'll be fussing with it all night.

b) if I do a jacket, i'll be too warm.

Oh yeah and another concern is that if I do a shawl, I'll have WAAAAAY too much fabric left over in the end. I hate how much they make you pay for these things.

I don't know how much they would need. I would think she would say more than less either way they'll get more money from you and also because you never really know how much you'll need.

She said if there was extra I could always do a clutch to match the dress.

I was also thinking, i might be able to use the extra fabric for the flowers.

How about sheer illusion sleeves instead ?
I am adding removable sleeves to my dress, in case I feel like wearing them.

Can't post the pic.

Sorry for the double post ....

The sleeves on the Rosemary Leigh dress are removable. They attach under the arms.

I'd suggest a jacket if you plan on keeping covered at the ceremony and reception. I think a shawl for the entire night might be too much of a hassle

I always mean to ask something and then forget. I was thinking about something like that since the dress is lacy.

I was going to ask aout something like that, a cap sleeve or similar. I already talked to her today about ordering the fabric so I don't know if it's too late.

Definitely a jacket or shrug.

I have big arms too. A cap sleeve just accentuates the size. Looks like a doily sitting on the shoulders.
The sheer material cost me an extra $150. No big deal to me if if means I can be more comfortable. I want them to be removable so I have the option.

Stupidly I didn't even ask how much the material would cost. She didn't put it on my bill when we purchased the dress so I called today to 'remind' them about it. I hope we're not in for a surprise.

Thanks, its been such a horror for me looking for dresses. I HATE dressing up but FH told me he wouldn't marry me otherwise LOL.

I really wish I had mentioned the sleeve thing when I was there the other day.

go for a sleeve!

Rosemary Leigh is my dress...although the sleeves are detachable, I'm having them sewed in place because I don't plan on removing them.
