She found the dress! Need shoes first?? (hollow-to-hem)
Just curious about how you girls did this. My daughter finally decided on her dress but they told us she needs to come in with the shoes she is going to wear so they can do the hollow-to-hem measurement!
It took months for her to choose her dress, and she was excited to order it. But it could take a looong time to select shoes! Did any of you just estimate the height heel you would wear, or did you take the time to shop before getting measured?
TIA!

i already had my shoes, but i've read/heard that you don't need the exact shoes, you just need shoes that are the same height as the wedding shoes you will have. i guess that means you know what you want before you have it, which is the tough part.
so it might be easier just to try to find shoes first.

I had to bring in the exact shoes I was wearing the day of, so they can measure and order my dress.
I needed a Hollow-to-Hem as well
She is better off getting the shoes first and having them order it right

For hollow to hem measuring she needs her shoes. That kind of measuring eliminates the need to have the dress hemmed when it comes in. If she doesn't have 'the' shoes, then she has to make ABSOLUTELY sure the heel height she gets measured in is the exact height of the shoes she wears on the day (or the dress will be too long or too short). If it is too long, there are some dresses that can't be hemmed due to the work (beads etc) on the bottom.

I needed a Hollow to Hem also- I left a deopist and then went shopping for shoes, honestly i wasnt that crazy over shoes! No one will see them and I wanted something comfortable! I went to Casa Di Mario in Patchogue. Def. make sure you have the exact shoes you are going to wear when you get the hollow to hem!
Good luck!

Thanks everyone! I guess a week or two for shoe shopping won't affect the timeline for ordering the dress.
Hindsight is 20/20 - shoulda looked at shoes while we were dress shopping!

yes i would get shoes first, i just put on a pair they had in the store that i felt were comfortable, and was told to buy shoes that same height, and then had a hard time finding shoes that height, it was not the most popular heel height, so definiitely save yourself the aggravation and get the shoes first, like you said two weeks won't make a difference

I had hollow to hem also and the woman who helped me had me try on a pair of shoes they had in the store and she measured me before ordering. Then she measured the heel. Now I have to get shoes that are exactly 2 and 3/4 inches high. Kind of annoying but this way my dress is ordered and i still haven't gotten the shoes.

I just tried on the dress with a pair of shoes around the same height that I would wear the day of. They said it is easier that way because they don't guarantee you the hem - it could be off an inch each way. So they told me to get the shoes after the dress came in. HTH!

They don't guarantee the hem when they do hollow-to-hem measurement? They charge an extra $100+ for it, I would think you should get exactly what they measured, no?
Because if it's too long or too short, how can they fix a dress with beading around the bottom? And then do they charge you again for fixing the hem? Or do you just run out and find different shoes at that point? Grrrr!

I told them I would wear about 2in so I tried a pair that the store had. I still have to get my shoes.
