Lately, when I put Lyndsey to bed, she rolls over onto her tummy. Then she pushes herself until her face is smushed up against the bumper pad, and falls asleep like that. I am SO scared she is going to suffocate! She loves to sleep with something right up against her face, but I don’t want to give her a blanky for the same reasons (not being able to breathe). Last night, I had to flip her over FIVE TIMES because she kept getting back into that same position. This morning when I went to pick her up out of her crib, she was on her tummy smushed into the corner again.
What do I do? Obviously she is comfortable like that, but I am scared. I can’t really wake up during the night to check on her to make sure she’s okay. Should I relax or keep trying to get her to sleep on her back? THANKS!

Re: She is making me nervous
Can you get one of those non-roll sleeper aids? I would ask the doctor about this. I am not sure when the risk of SIDS is very low. Also, they sell a baby monitor that can tell you when a baby has stopped breathing, maybe that would help you feel more at ease.

Take out her bumpers. Maybe she won't do it then. That would scare the heck out of me too.

John Anthony sleeps like that ALL THE TIME! It sounds like she is strong enough to roll herself back around if she needs to. At the age where mommy tries to roll them back one way, and they roll back the other , it means its time to not roll her back anymore, since she seems fine doing in on her own.
I did get concerned at first, when he slept with his face against the bumper, but I always check that he has room to breathe and he seems fine. He loves that closeness to his face also...
Ask your Dr to ease your concerns, (and let me know what he says too!) Im sure everything is fine. Your little girl is growing up !!

I'm curious to know what your doctor has to say. I'd like to store the nfo away for future use.

Re: She is making me nervous
Thank you so much everyone. What do you think of this?
CribShield Breathable Bumper
A safer alternative to the traditional crib bumper, the Mom-created CribShield breathable mesh bumber allows for air flow and visibility while keeping infant's arms and legs in the crib. For infants from birth to 9 months.
i dont know if the mesh will work...since she may sleeping this way because she wants something soft near her face.
Def DO NOT take off the bumper. the purpose for them at this age is to prevent arms, legs from getting lodged in there. J scared me when she hooked her arm over the bumper and thru the crib slats.
The monitor they spoke of above is the Angelcare Monitor ( best price we found was on EBAY). is has an extra peice that u insert below the mattress . An alarm will go off itf it does not detect any movement from the baby. Also, the frequencies it uses cannot be detected on scanner (another plus).. we have it and love it!
Juilianne has been moving around in bed for the last 2 months. As long as they roll over...they can roll back. we took out the positioner at that time since she only wriggled her way out of it. (and when seh was in it and not rolling over,,she would sleep with her nose against one of the pillows)...I guess they are also trying to simluate being in a smaller warmer, cushier place- mommy's belly! let me know what the dr says.... HTH

Re: She is making me nervous
I disagree about removing the bumper - I think it should be taken OUT OF THE CRIB ASAP. All of the crib bedding says explicitly that the bumpers should be removed once the baby can roll over by themselves and start to pull up on them. I understand Lyndsey wanting something soft near her face, but honestly - it's NOT SAFE not matter what the soft thing is - a blankie or the bumpers!
Remove the bumpers and don't think about it - she's still too young to be in that much of a habit over it, and babies really do adapt quickly, so she'll get used to it fast. This is one of those decisions that you are making for her best interest, and not allowing a baby to dictate your choices. She'll get over it, I promise!
I would also ask her pediatrician about this, just to be sure. Oh, and those 'no roll' sleep aid are worthless for you - Lyndsey is much to big and strong - so that won't do a darn thing to help this.
Good luck!!

Re: She is making me nervous
Im with Claud - REMOVE THE BUMPER!!!!! Although I think at her age with being able to roll over if she gets her face in a position where she cant breathe her brain will make her wake up and roll over but why chance it?

Re: She is making me nervous
I COULDNOT stop alex from doing that... I removed the bumper and now he snuggles with a sturdy music box stuffed monkey... When I first removed the bumper he still inched into the corner, his little face was squashed against the rungs then! But at least I knew he could breathe! The doctor told me he was probably cramped in the womb,(ya think?!) so hes comfy laying like that... Hes been a belly sleeper from about 3.5 weeks though too... Talk about nerve racking.. Hope fully it will just be another one of their many stages! Good Luck!
