She turned over!!!! Question about video monitors...

Okay, at four and a half months old, Rebecca turned over from her back to her stomach last night for the first time!!! Now, the nervous mommy and daddy are worried about SIDS!!! Can anyone recommend a good video monitor so I can tell when she does it again? Fortunately, when she did it last night, she didn't like it, so she started crying, and we came in to find her on her stomach (head raised, though). But, she might get used to doing it, and I want to be able to see her now... any suggestions? By the way, how many of your babies sleep on their stomachs?

Awww, how cute is that??!!! I try to get Gianna to turn over, but she wants no part of it!!

Congrats Rebecca!!! Only now you're giving mommy & daddy agita!!!!

Sorry Lauren, I have no suggestions!

Edited to answer your question: Gianna sleeps on her back in the crib, but when my mother and Nanny watch her, they sometimes let her fall asleep on the couch on her stomach and she sleeps for about an hour like that. They, of course after my hounding, make sure to keep her head turned sideways, and are right next to her the whole time. Some for my friend's babies only slept on their stomach, they refused to sleep on their backs.

Emma rolled over from her back to her stomach at 4 months. I too was very nervous about her sids. i spoke to the pediatrician and he said that once she can roll over, she is ready to sleep on her stomach because she has enough head control to turn her head to the side. I was not comfortable with this answer so I went back to using the sleep positioner. I moved the wedges closer so that they were cradling her body and when she falls alseep, I put her right into the sleep positioner in her crib. She has not rolled over in it during the night. (I am also very nervous and go check on her as soon as I hear her on the monitor. Then I usually pick her up right away and feed her and she usually falls right back to sleep so I dont have to worry about her trying to roll over while awake in the middle of the night.

Don't quote me, b/c I'm not 100% certain, but I *think* that over 4 mos. old, they are not at risk for SIDS anymore.

That's not to say that you shouldn't get a video monitor, if you want more 'visability' into her movements at night, tho.

Ryan turned over from back to stomach at around the same time -- and from then on he just loved sleeping on his stomach. Once they can go it's hard to keep them from doing it. If you are worried, call your ped and see what they say - I think once they can roll though you can let them find whatever position is comfortable for them...

CONGRATS!!
