Shelby... or anyone else... Question about flowers
I'll be booking a florist in December. The only one I know to go to is James Cress. I've heard great things about them from a lot of people. If anyone has any other suggestions I'm open to them. My wedding is in Port Jefferson in August. Anyway, I'm not sure what I'll need for the wedding. I know I'll need... 1 Brides Bouquet 6 Bridesmaids Bouquets 11 Boutinnieres 2 Mothers coursages 1 throw away bouquet 10-12 Centerpieces What else will I need? The ceremony is out on the deck. What do I decorate that with? Do I need flowers for the cocktail hour, our head table, gift table, etc.??? I'm not even sure what kind of flowers I want. I know I want somekind of Victorian lilac. Not the deep purple. I just don't know what I can get. Personally, I was just thinking of lavendar roses and baby's breath. I think that's really romantic. Are there lavendar roses? Sorry for all the questions. Thanks in advance.

Question about flowers
There are lavendar roses - they're really pretty. I would recommend checking out Burton's and Flower Michele Florist. They were my favorites and in the same price range. Other flowers / decoration options (that you definitely don't 'need' to get): cake flowers tulle (around the deck? or chairs) arrangements by the 'alter' seating card table arrangement dais table for the cocktail hour, I'm floating gardenias in glass bowls and there will be votives around. I went to James Cress too - they do beautiful work but their quote was $800 more. I think they can work more in a budget if you don't have set ideas of what you want (and I have set ideas) Good luck.

Flowers by Brian
I highly recommend them. They`re in Mineola and are getting ready to move a few doors down to a new, bigger location. They did our flowers, and we were all amazed at just how beautiful they were. Even men were complimenting on the flowers, and when do you ever hear men compliment on flowers? I had never seen arrangements where they use wire along the stems, and thought that was great ... it gives the stems support and helps the arrangements to keep their shape better. The wire is green, so unless you look very closely, you`d never notice it. I noticed it on my bouquet, and on the alter arrangements, which were brought to the reception and used to surround our love table on the floor. I`m not sure what else might have been 'wired.' We originally met with Lisa, who was so eager and enthusiastic about helping us chose our flowers. At one of our later appointments, we met with Bobbi because Lisa`s appointment was running late. Bobbi was great in helping us make the final decisions on our colors and what exactly to do on each of the arrangements. We used fall colors, and while we used roses in the bouquets and centerpieces, I wanted sunflowers worked in .. and they went in the alter arrangements with roses. Everything came out great. They had us come in and check out the bouquets the day before, and I was so glad .. talk about building on the excitement! On the day of the wedding, the delivery to my house came early, and the driver said if the church was locked for that delivery, he would just sit and wait til someone arrived. Oh, and one final note about how great they were to work with ... in the final week before the wedding, we had lots of people drop off the attending list, so much that I had to go and rework the seating chart and we lost a table from the original seating chart. This meant we needed one less table arrangement. But, since the flowers were already ordered, Bobbi and I worked out that they would put some roses on each of the six pew bows, and send a vase with the remaining roses to my house. (Our centerpieces used 4 1/2 dozen roses). They were the only florist we looked at, because they were the first and we were so impressed with them. So, price wise I don`t really know how they compare, and really don`t care because I feel they were so worth everything. http://www.flowersbybrian.com

Question about flowers
We had James Cress and my flowers were so beautiful I wanted to cry. Yes they are a little pricey, but I thought Flowers by Brian were even more $$$. They quoted me about $700-800 more for the same flowers.

Sorry Melissa - I was away for the weekend...
For the deck at PJCC we used tulle swags over the gazebos, intertwined with roses. We had big white ribbons tied around the deck. There were 2 columns of flowers on either side of the gazebo, which we later moved inside for the reception. We place them on either side of our 'sweetheart' table and it looked great. We decided not to decorate for the cocktail hour because the deck is so pretty anyway that it seemed like overkill. We also rented wooden posts and a runner to create an aisle. Let me know if you have any other specific questions - I'll be glad to help. Good luck!Welcome New Vendors
