Shipping my wedding dress? *poll*

Shipping my wedding dress? *poll*

I am seriously considering fed-exing my wedding dress to NY instead of carrying it on the plane with me. It is super heavy and I will be traveling alone (with a carry on and 2 luggages). Half of the people I tell this to think its a great idea, the other half think I am crazy! What do you guys think?I am torn!

TIA!!!

if you do ship it, make sure to get insurance on that package.

personally, i'd probably take it on the plane though ... cause i would want to be 100% sure the dress will arrive in NY safe and sound.

ETA: i didn't vote cause although i prob wouldn't, i don't really see a problem with it (if it's insured)

I carried my reception dress home with me on the plane from Vegas. I know that's a far cry from a wedding gown, but it wasn't all that much of a hassle and at least I had the pleasure of knowing it was in my sight at all times. I'd carry it on!

id ship some luggage before shipping the dress. god forbid something happens (which it probably wont), youll always say that you should have just carried it on.

I would ship other items and take my dress on the plain with me. There is no way I would trust the mail.

considering I work for a company that ships stuff everywhere, I'm advising you to bring it with you. you have NO idea what those companies do to packages..and they lose stuff all the time.

no..take it with you.

ship it, but make sure you get the insurance on it and ship it days before.

these dresses get shipped to and from the factory and wedding center, and it made they there just fine.

insurance is awesome...except that both fedex and UPS will fight you tooth and nail before they pay you. I'm in the business trust me.

we have 9 unpaid claims w them so far this year. That's 9 EXPENSIVE items that they either destroyed or lost. and guess what? They don't care.

yes, companies pay to have the dresses shipped to them but that's not YOUR dress, altered and how many weeks before your wedding. They can get others. they're straight from the designer.

I'm telling you...do not risk it. you dont have enough time to submit a claim, get paid and reorder and re-alter your dress before your wedding.

I'd say no.. Take it with you.

I'd be crazy nervous it wouldn't get there or it'd be damaged and you'd have zero time to fix or replace..

I'm going with do not ship. Odds are nothing would happen and it would be fine... BUT things get lost all the time and your wedding is in less than a month and god forbid it does get lost even if the package is insured there is no way that will be resolved in time for your wedding.

I had personal experience with this.
I had to decide whether to take it on the plane with me from Tampa or have it shipped.

I suppose bringing it with you gives you piece of mind because you know where it is but unless you have someone with you to help you, its going to be ridiculously difficult for you. Simply carrying it with you will be hard enough. Then once you get on the plane you have to put it in overhead and if its a crowded flight, which is what happened to me, you wont have a large space to keep it because I guarantee ppl will move it around!

Some airlines have a thing where you can store it in the front of the plane in the 'captains closet'. unfortunately Jet Blue did not.
Whether you ship it or not, you will still have to get it pressed because it will get wrinkled.
Mine was in a ball by the time i got home.

Another option is to box it and check it on the plane. This way you know where it is and you dont have to worry about carrying it around!!

Is anyone driving from where you are at to the wedding? I would give it to someone who is who you trust! Otherwise take it on the plane!
