Shock of Shocks!!!!

I just spoke to my FMIL online and we didn't kill each other

She apologized..hopefully things will be better now. We talked for over an hour.

We'll see.

All this could fall apart though when we drop the 'getting married in church' bomb on her

See what you can do to ease things for her in regard to the church thing. I'll be honest with you. I am Jewish and my mother is giving me poop about doing things that are TOO religious - in other words - things SHE didnt do. Damned if ya do, damned if ya don't

You're so right about damned if you do/don't. I remember when we mentioned the mezinkeh and other things and FMIL was all up in arms that no one does that stuff anymore...I'll just tell her we took her advice to do it a new way. haha

we'll see how it goes. Hopefully she'll give us a chance to explain the reaons we chose to church, and that we will have a rabbi and will basically be including the elements of a full jewish ceremony.

I wanted to clairfy more of what happenned. We were making our STD list yesterday and I told FH maybehe should call his mom, and just ask her how she is, you knwo short and sweet. As bad as things have been with her, I dont want her finding out the wedding details on the STD with everyone else. I don't think that's fair. So he spoke to her for a few minutes but then he had to go cause our food came. Then todayI signed on and I told FH his mom was online and he told me to tell her he was sorry he didn't get a chance to call her back. To her credit, FMIL immediately apologized to me and told me she's been emaning to talk to me but didn['t have the words, and I told her about my concerns and we discussed a lot fo what has happenned in the past year and how a lot of it was miscommunication and we both decided we didn't want to rehash everything, but just move forward, but I did tell her about a few things that I felt might be a problem going forward and she was very gracious and actually sweet. She seemed trhilled i was even talking to her. I'm going to keep an optomisitic heart and an open mind. Maybe if we can just put the past behind us, everything will be ok.

Tell her they DO do the Mezinke. They DO walk around 7 times. They DO go to Mikvehs (ok maybe not everyone but I am). Sometimes people are not comfortable because they feel they havent embraced their own faith enough so they knock it.

JEn...that is awesome...I am so happy for you! You can still incorporate many Jewish parts of the ceremony in a church.

Awe I didnt know of your situation, but just reading that it sounds like you both are off to a better start. Hopefully the lines of communication will remain smooth. Good luck to you!
