Shopping for BM gowns -- did YOU try them on?

Shopping for BM gowns -- did YOU try them on?

I was wondering if anyone was doing this: I went BM dress shopping with my MOH and there was this bride there, by herself, trying on the gowns to pick out for her BMs. I thought about it and realized it's not a bad idea. I'm just getting tired of chasing after my MOH to go gown shopping. I need to get this done and I figured this might be the better way. She blew me off last weekend when we both had a three day weekend. (Guess what she was doing BTW -- shopping!) And now I don't even feel like calling her for this weekend. Did anyone else do this? How did it go over when you chose a gown? My body type is very similar to 5 out of the 7 girls.

My gf suggested I do this and it was a great idea! I went a few times with a few of my girls, but once or twice, last minuts, I went into a store with just my mom, and I tried a dress or two on and that is how I found it---my mom and I stopped in on a whim! So I would say 'Yes!' Go and get an idea of what you like, and bring them back when you find dresses you love or when you have narrowed it down! It makes the whole process a little less painful and less complicated! LOL

I didnt do it until the last time we went out. I had felt that I would take away from the excitement of them getting a dress. But on the last outting- we went to a sample sale. And none of my girls could get the dress even on there bodies. So little old me had to model all the dresses for them. So none of my BMs really tried there dresses on at all!!

I'd say if you want to then go for it!

I did! I went to a Watters & Watters trunk show with my MOH... We both tried on the dress and decided if it looked good on us, it would look good on the girls... and it did! We needed to order then b/c the dresses were a very good price at the trunkshow.

I had too since most of the places don't carry a lot of the larger sizes. And my
thinner girls weren't able to come

OMG!
I am so glad you posted this!
I was just talking abotu this to FH last night.

I posted a dress yesterday from Davis's that I like, but I want to see how low cut it is, so I was thinking of going to look at it by myself, since my MOH & BM are OOT.
I thought the sale people would think I'm nuts, but FH said I can't possible be the first person to do that.
I guess he was right.

Did you ever see For Better or for Worse? The bridesmaid's try on the bride's gown, so this isn't that weird.

I let all my BM's pick out there own dresses but one of my silly BM's couldn't decide and wanted to see them on me (but we have similar body types - we both fight over who we think is smaller). Also, I tried one on for another BM - the top was too small for her so she couldn't get a feel for how low it would go if it fit right so she made me try it on. It was fun! I don't see anything wrong with it.

The girls found the dress that they loved so I tried it on as well just to see it on.
