Shopping for invites??? Where did you shop?

Wow... I can't believe I'm up to this part already....

Anyway, I started looking around at invitations and yesterday I looked through every single page of two of those big giant books (Regency, I think) and I didn't like anything... where did you girls shop for you invites? Any good websites I should look at?

I went through the internet for my invites. I kept ordering samples of what I liked. When I found everything that I liked I put them out on the table and my FH and I went through them several times till we found the one. I had a great experience with the place I ordered them from (Invitations by Dawn).

Jimmysbride--I am havignteh same problem.
I thoguht Ias early, it looks liek we are on teh same schedule.

I looked in PArty City ( in westchester) & didn't liek anything from Carlson, Birchcraft or Encore)

I looked at a store in the Westchester ( fancy mall) & kinda liked some Cranes, but they were SO expensive.
I don't know where to get middle of teh road ones.
I ordered soem samples on lien, but didn't liek any of them ,s I think that is a waste to keep doing that. Eventually the $2 or so for each will add up.

I don't think I can do a search for 'paper that doesn't feel like a manilla folder'
I' don't want themes invites- just traditional ones. Its harder that it seems. Jimmysbride- what are you looking for?

Hey Tourist -- I'm glad to see we are on the same page!

Well... first I was looking for scrolls or scroll-like invites but I found out they are REALLY expensive... well, the NICE ones are... the fugly ones in fugly colors can be reasonably priced....

So now I'm looking for something unique. Something that will stand out... not a traditional invite. I feel like they all look the same and no one will remember them. The only invites I remember receiving were so unique. They were on this really soft fuzzy paper and had dried pressed flowers on them. I wasn't crazy about them but they were different, pretty, and most importantly -- I remembered them! SO that's what I want: Something memorable.

I like invites made of a different paper... vellum is nice sometimes (LOL you are too funny with you manilla envelope paper -- I agree!), I like ones with ribbons on them, shaped differently (hate square ones, no offense anyone, just NMS) with funky folds maybe....

I got mine from http://www.wedding-traditions.com
You put in all of your information and they give you a preview of your invitation with all of your information on it. Its pretty cool!

Re: Shopping for invites??? Where did you shop?

I looked and looked then looked some more online. I found ones I liked, then posted on the vendor board. Rebecca from Favorite Things Invites had the ones I wanted. She was 5% higher then online but 1- I didn't have to pay shipping and 2- I got THE BEST personal service. She spent almost 2 hours with me talking about font, color and wording. When I got to her house (she works out of her house) she had the book open to the page on my invite. Some of the party stores only have the lower level invites. That could be why you are having trouble finding 'the one'. I am so glad I went to her, it was so worth the little extra $$.

We got ours from Laura at LA Production, she's a vendor on this site. She has a million books to choose from and if you don't find anything you like, she can also custom make your invitations. She's very reasonably priced, she's sweet as pie and extremely talented.

If you do a search you could see the invitations we selected.

Best of luck!

I have been sample crazy as well.
And I sat and looked at some books at the Hallmark @ Lake Success, they have a great selection, we say three that we liked, so we will probably choose from there.

But the precious collection has some nice ones, and the prices are pretty good, if you orfer their value collections
