Should gifts be returned if a marriage lasts less than 1 year?

Should gifts be returned if a marriage lasts less than 1 year?

It's not like I expect my gifts back, but my really good friend got married last year and his wife left him after 10 months.

They had dated for 8 years, and were engaged for 2 of those years. They received engagement, shower, and wedding gifts.

(Lucky me- for the shower, I gave them a bunch of the bridal accessories that they registered for).

But, just out of curiosity, are they supposed to return their gifts?

taht's a trivky questions.
technically people can still send gifts up to a year, so if soemone sent something rightbefore they split up I'd say return it, but if you snet them their beddignor soemthing, & they've been using it, its not practical to send it back.
And i think it woudl be weird to go back & see who gave what $ & give it back to them.

No idea but I would think not (or at least I would not expect it).

Monetary gifts and money in replace of 'used' gifts should be returned....

I think they are supose to be reutrned, however, I 've attedned two weddings where the marriage was dissolved within a year and never got my gift returned. My FH and I are planning to use some of the monetary gifts to cover part of the wedding, so we better stay together at least a year!

i think this sounds right... how can someone expect a used blender back...and sending money in exchange for used gifts just doesnt seem feasible. I'm sure this couple didnt expect to break up...

I don't think they should be returned unless the marriage was under 3 months, personally, because you start using the gifts right away.

I don't think so you gave them a gift with the idea that they would get married - unlike when you give someone a gift in the anticipation that they get married and they don't then it should be returned but in this case you gave them a gift in the anticipation that they would be married - THEY DID get married - so I think that they should not have to return them. The fact that they split up 10 months later does not matter they were married and I think that is all that is important - sad as it is to say.
