should i address my relatives formally/informally...?

what is the proper etiquette in addressing immediate family? i am not having an inner envelope...

would it be:

'Joe and Amy Smith'

or
'
'Uncle Joe and Aunt Amy Smith'

or:

Uncle Joe and Aunt Amy'

Also, what if there are kids?
do you put 'and family' on the outer envelope?

OR

should it just be

'The Smith Family'

Thanks!!!!

I have inner envelopes, so on the outer I'm doing Mr. and Mrs. So-And-So for everyone, including my and FH's parents. But part of me was thinking of doing 'Mom & Dad' on the inner envelope for my parents. Then again, FH doesn't call them that, and I'd feel weird calling his parents that too. We use the parents' first names. I saw an article in a magazine that had creative inner envelopes, using close friends' and family's nicknames and such. I thought that was a cool idea. I'm still on the fence with this one though. I think people might do this for a more casual wedding.

If you're following traditional etiquette, stick with the Mr. and Mrs. According to several threads on here, the outer envelope lists just the parents, and the inner lists the parents by Mr. and Mrs. and the children by first name only.

Outer Envelope:
Mr. and Mrs. So-And-So
Address Line 1
Address Line 2

Inner Envelope:
Mr. and Mrs. So-And-So
Ann, Billy, and Charlie

For just an outer envelope, if all the children living at home under 18 are invited, I've seen it done like this:

Mr. and Mrs. So-And-So and Family
Address Line 1
Address Line 2

That way it is clearly understood who is invited. If their child lives at home but is older than 18, etiquette says they get their own invitation.

It's a good question..... I hope others answer so we can get an idea of what everyone's doing.
