should I be concerned-hair/makeup issues

should I be concerned-hair/makeup issues

Ok, here's the jist of it. I need to know if I am over-reacting. I am a lawyer and sometimes tend to be overly cautious. Please let me know your honest opinions.

I had my trial and decided to book a vendor for hair/makeup for me and my BM's. She asked me to put down a deposit and then she would mail me the contract. This did not sit well with me as I am an attorney and didn't feel comfortable with giving her money without seeing the contract. I asked her to read the contract to me over the phone. she read it and I sent her the deposit.

I get the contract and there is language in there about for every 15 minutes late for one of the BM's that I would have to pay $25!!!!! I called her and told her that I did not want this clause in there and she would not get rid of it. I asked that I can $$ taken off if she is late and she wouldn't do it.

Due to not wanting to find someone else I went ahead and signed the new contract (she made some other changes that I requested.). When she sent me the contract I noticed that she did not sign it- this also alerted me.

So, now I just got an email that she ripped up the contract because I forgot to date it when I signed it!!!!! I emailed her back that I gave her the authority to sign the contract.

I had my trial with her in April and it is now July

Hold on, I don't get it. You sent her back the contract but she ripped it up because you didn't sign it??? Why not just email/call you that it wasn't signed?

wow, a contract??? i'm using jen the hair genie and oksana and they had no contracts... i left a $20 deposit for each to reserve the date... was it a huge deposit that you left? was she really good?

It was a 50% deposit.

ok, don't worry -- i'm sure you booked her because you loved your trial... and surely none of those circumstances will happen... maybe she was badly burned by a client in the past... i'm sure it'll be soon forgotten on your day...

best of luck!

Girls, you should get a signed contract, I got one for hair, Roseanna Amador from Cosmony.com, she was amazing and had a real contract for me, God forbid she said something ever happened to her I would have someone in her place to do my hair, well as for my makeup artist, she was from MAC, did an amazing job, but didnt give me a contract and was a bit scattered with her appointments, I was very worried she would not show up either on time or at all, but she was there on time and did an amazing makeup job on me, but I never felt comfortable, why no contract..........We need to be covered God Forbid something should happen on either end. I would hang in there, did you put a big deposit down? Are you comfortable with her after all of this, if not, as long as you didnt put down a ton of money, I would maybe go elsewhere.
Good luck, I cant beleive she did that to you, very unprofessional......

Perhaps she's just not contractually knowledgeable? I would assume you didn't date the contract b/c you were waiting on her to sign and date it.

That being said, I would address this with her, and let her know you're confused.

If she has a 50% deposit, and no contract, you're entitled to get that money back. Isn't that correct?

Also, I've never heard of anyone charging extra b/c someone is late. Perhaps she's been burned in the past, but to be adamant as to not change the contract per your request - doesn't look like she wants the business.
