Soooo last night I get home at like 9, and I'm changing from suit to PJ's, and FH is like 'I need to tell you something.' So immediately I'm thinking he did something horrendous, or he was breaking off the engagement! So, I go into the kitchen and I'm like sure what's up? And he's like 'I did something I'm very uncomfortable with.' Long story short.... my FSIL told FH's brother (FBIL) that I said FBIL was furiously trying to read an email that FSIL sent me, over my shoulder, while FBIL was here last weekend. FSIL claimed I told her this in an email to her. So being I was in court last night, and wanting to clear it up and prove FSIL is a liar, FH went into my email outbox, found the email I sent to FSIL, and read it.
Ok so here's the thing - I couldn't care less. Is that weird? Should I be mad? I know some people get REALLY touchy about this stuff, that its a violation of privacy, etc. but it really didn't phase me. Thoughts anyone? ? ?

Re: Should I be mad?
If you've given him your password voluntarily, I wouldn't be. FH and I have each other's passwords, so I really couldn't care less if he looks in my email. In all honesty, it seems as though FH was just trying to help you out.
If you never gave him your password however, and he found it out in some sneaky way.......well then I'd be a little suspicious. JMO.

Re: Should I be mad?
Even though I know FH's password to his email he gets very upset if I read an email...it could be absolutely nothing but he feels its a violation of privacy and to be honest, if he read one of my emails I might be upset too. I think it all depends on the person and how you feel about privacy.

Re: Should I be mad?
i wouldnt be mad at all...i see it as im not doin anything wrong so i really dnt care if FH goes thru my stuff....if he went off and tried getting my password behind my back and looked than yea id be mad bc then it shows 1 he doesnt trust me and 2 he doesnt know how to talk to me bout any problems hes having!

Re: Should I be mad?
I wouldnt be upset bc FH and I have eachothers passwords and noone sends me anything that I would not want FH to read...plus he only read your email with a specific purpose...not to generally snoop or check who was emailing you

Re: Should I be mad?
i think I would be kinda annoyed if he did, but I dont think I would be mad...We both have each others passwords to everything just in case of emergencies or something, but to go in just to check something I dont see as a problem. If there were some emails in there regarding something I was doing for FH, then I would be mad...

ITA! Yet, he could have just waited till you got home to ask you to show him the email too.

Re: Should I be mad?
Its funny - FH doesnt have my password - well i didnt give it to him voluntarily but he got it by using a password finder on the computer - i was FURIOUS but not for the obvious reason - i was mad because how could he think id be doing something other than what im supposed to be doing???? If he just wanted to prove she was lying - i dont see the harm & he told you about it instead of not telling you - i wouldnt be furious....JMO

I personally wouldn't be mad...but thats just me. If he had asked to see it would you have shown it to him anyway? If it was private, then i would def. be mad.

Re: Should I be mad?
We have each others passwords and don't routinely check each others email or anything. His brother was really giving him a hard time and saying that I was trying to drive a wedge between FH and FBIL by aligning myself with FSIL So I really do believe he was just trying to prove that I didn't do what she claimed, and he wanted to clear it up asap instead of waiting for me to get home.
I guess I was just concerned that I was weird for not even giving it a second thought - but based on your responses, it seems like I'm not weird at all given the situation! I feel much better!
P.S. There were numerous emails between myself and the girl I'm using for b-pics, but he swears he didn't read anything but the email to FSIL. I don't think he could hide it if he did read something else, so I believe him.

If it was me, I wouldn't be mad. It looks like he was trying to help you out, so it wasn't like he was going into your email just to snoop around and see if you were doing something behind his back.

Re: Should I be mad?
Personally, I wouldn't like it. I'd think the situation could wait til 9pm. I have FH's password but only bc it is the password for EVERYTHING else he has, including joint accounts he and I have together. He had asked me several times to go into his email acct when he was unable to, and he needed me to give him something like an important confirmation number for a flight or hotel reservation, etc. Other than that, I would never look in his emails. If it were me, I would wait until he got home. And FH and I are sooooooooooooo close with each other... but I still don't like going into his email unless he specifically asks me to do so. I don't even remember if FH has my email password lol. I don't think he does but I can't remember. I may have called and asked him to go into my email if I needed something impt but that would have been yrs ago. I'm sooo not into exchanging passwords for all of our separate accts (eg. Fb, my several emails, bank accts, CC accts, med school acct, liweddings!!! lol)... I have absolutely nothing to hide but I feel like if we trust each other, there's no need to share all our passwords. JMO
ETA: However, it would make me feel a little bit better that he apologized and said he had felt uncomfortable about having gone through my email. That was def a nice gesture. But... I would just hope that he didn't go through them bc he thought there may be a chance that I DID say this weird thing to FSIL, but since he found out I didn't, now he feels guilty for having checked.

Re: Should I be mad?
Both FH and I know each other's passwords to accounts, if you give it to them willingly then you can't be mad if they look at the emails. I don't think you're wrong for not being mad, you're comfortable and secure in your relationship. And you knew you did/said nothing wrong so you had nothing to hide. I wouldn't be mad either.

I wouldn't care. Of all the things that are terrible in the world that's not one of them for me
