Re: Should I change my date to accomodate a guest?
I wouldnt change the date ....If you changed the date for every guest that had other plans you would never get married I am getting married on my cousin's 21st birthday and I thought about changing it but I didnt end up because the next week is good Friday then it became April and that was more $$$ so My advice keep the date

No, nothing booked... I gave up the Jericho Terrace and lost my deposit. Now I can do it whenever. I really can only do July or August... I think in July I will be doing my thesis though.. :( Otherwise I would totally do July!!

Re: Should I change my date to accomodate a guest?
wow... thats a tough decision... personally, i dont think i would change my date if I already put work into it... but if you dont mind changing the date, then change it... but you need to do what is best for you and FH... remember it is your day. Not everyone will always be able to come, and I believe if it is important enough to them, they will do what ever they can to make it. can they maybe just extend their stay so they come for your wedding first and stay through to the second wedding???
hope this helps!

I wouldn't change the date personally Nothing ever works out perfectly for everyone, and if you change it now for one reason, another reason is going to come up and you're going to think, 'well, i changed it for that reason, so how can i not change it now.....' you'll make yourself crazy. stick with your plan and it will all work itself out

Not to add any stress. But have you though about maybe September? Labor day weekend perhaps. I just think it's going to be very hot in July/August for a backyard wedding! That could help your date dilema.

If it were ME and this was my favorite aunt and uncle.. i would move up the wedding to early July OR just ask them what is convenient for them since their presence is VERY imprtant to you!

what school are you doing your thesis with?? I did my last summer at Dowling, and it wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... and we were also given the opportunity to finish it early and stop going to class... oh course i took the entire time because i have a slight procrastination problem, but in all honesty i wrote the thing in a few days (not including the research part) and FI pulled an all-nighter to get his done!! so maybe july can be an option??

I wouldn't change the date. It seems as though you have sound reasons for choosing the date AND you already have the save the dates printed.

I wouldn't change the date. There is always something. For example, I found out my cousin's timeshare week is the week of my wedding. Those that will be there will be there and those that won't well... one less X-mas card to write... no, I'm kidding.
Do what's best for you and FH. Do you want a honeymoon before the school year starts again?

That's a decision you have to make....but from personal experience, there's always going to be someone that isnt going to make it....However, If you can find a date that will suit the people you are closest to - then I would say change it....

I wouldn't change the date - if they really really want to be there - they will.

Maybe they can make a vacation out of it... come up for your wedding, stay the week and do some sight-seeing, attend the other wedding, and then fly home.

Re: Should I change my date to accomodate a guest?
I agree with MamanDaddyof2. You cannot accomodate all your guests' needs or schedule. If you change your date to accomodate 1 guest and another guest can't make it then you will have to change your date 2x and so on... You can't please all your guests as there's always someone who can't make it for whatever reasons which you would love for them to share your special day with. Losing one deposit for a wedding vendor such as caterer or restaurant is enough but then losing a second deposit should you change the date again becomes a financial loss as weddings are $$$$. Prehaps, they can extend their stay longer to attend both weddings and make it a vacation for them? They're plenty to see, do, dine, museums, Broadway shows, shopping, etc. in the 'Entertainment Capital of the World' city.
My mother's extended foreign family wanted us to provide round-trip transportation from our Manhattan ceremony to our Queens reception otherwise, they've threaten not to attend. We got them a limo bus to take them from our Manhattan ceremony to our Queens reception and a charter bus from our Queens reception to their snotty Waldorf-Astoria Hotel (they refused to stay at our 5 hotels we block rooms, thus no welcome baskets). Their next demand/request was to leave our reception 1 hour early after their petulant child behavioral request for round-trip transportation. (They're getting old and want to retire the day early.) My mother and I put our foot down and said 'NO' to the leaving 1 hour early. All they had to do was to walk from our restaurant to the parking lot to board the charter bus which takes them directly to their snotty hotel. The next thing I knew was they demanded to be pushed in wheel chairs and be waited on with a VIP treatment using 'respect your elderly' as an excuse which in Asian culture is highly regarded.
Personally, I wouldn't change your date. You can't please all your guests.
