I picked up my band last night and it is pretty loose... along with my engagement ring (I've lost 17 lbs in a year) But I heard that due to nerves, fingers may swell and I am getting married in the middle of August. Should I leave it alone or get it sized? Girls I need your advice.

Re: Should I resize my rings?
I thought I should get my e-ring resized, but then my MOH told me that she can no longer wear her wedding band b/c she got a size that fit her perfect when they got married 4 years ago. She gained just a little weight and boom, she can't get it on or off - imagine when she's pregnant! It has diamonds all the way around so there isn't much she can do about this other than not wear it and she told me that a little loose is a little better and to get tifany beads (shots) added to the back, if your fingers swell due to weight gain or pregnancy they CAN remove the beads. First I got 2 beads and it was still loose so I added a third between the 2. Thankfully I did this instead b/c I had jewelers telling me that if they cut my band I'd lose my 4 princess cut baguettes b/c they sit in an invisible setting. One jeweler offered to make my band OVAL! How horrible is that! My vote is you probably ordered the ring that size b/c it was comfortable at that time. If shots/beads help (I finally convinced a jeweler to add the third bead right in the center of the band and that worked wonderfully) then why take the chance on butchering your ring? Good luck... let us know how you make out.

My rings are from fortunoff's.. they never said anything about beads.. all they said was to resize it. Where could i get these beads?

Re: Should I resize my rings?
Sounds very interesting too?
All the married women with kids tell me to leave my ring fitting loose, because eventually when I get pregnant or gain weight, it won't fit anymore. I too am torn, between getting it tighter. My Wedding band, fits perfect. But, that will be the ring closer to my heart. Eventually, I know I won't wear my e-ring as much. I will wear my band for the most part. I still have not resized my e-ring, yet. Don't know if I want too.

Re: Should I resize my rings?
I hear you guys. When I got my ring finger sized initially I had this innate fear of my ring having to be cut off my finger b/c my finger swelled. Not sure why I felt that way, but the ring came in the size we ordered which was about a quarter to a half of a size too big. If you have any baguettes it may be hard for a jeweler to do much about resizing anyway depending on the setting. You can get the beads (also sometimes referred to as shots) at any reputable jewelry store. Basically what they are: tiny little beads of gold (not sure if they come in platnum) that match the color of your ring that sit inside the band on your palm side. Kind of like a ring guard, but not as obvious. You can't see the beads unless you show someone the inside of your band or take it off. IMO, after hearing my MOH's story about her absolutely stunning wedding band that she can no longer wear (and I'm sure they paid a good amount of $$$$$ for it too), I would not have the ring made smaller, it may never be exactly as it was originally again. But the best advice I can offer is, like I did, ask SEVERAL jewelers. And if something in your heart even slightly makes you think 'not so sure about this' don't do it. When the jeweler told me he was going to make my band oval, I knew that was not the way I was going to go. Who knows what I would have been left with and FH would not have been happy either. With the beads my ring is not snug, but it absolutely will not slide over my knuckle without my tugging on it a bit - it will only come off intentionally. And when the time comes when my feet and hands may swell when there's a bun in the oven... I can just get the beads removed. You can get them made in different sizes too... they just melt some gold into a bead. Not a big deal and if it's still not enough, you spent about $30 at the end of the day and no damage was done. It's at least where I'd start.

Re: Should I resize my rings?
I've used Estate Jewels of Huntington for my e-ring several times (for restoration and resizing). I did have the ring resized from an 8 to a 6, which is still a little loose. They suggested that if it's too loose, I can get beads--they offer them in platinum as well. I highly recommend them. I've trusted them enough to leave FH's great grandmother's e-ring with them for a week and a half for the restoration and a week for the resizing.

I have the shots in my e-ring - it helped a lot!! My fingers swell in the summer and the shots do not make it feel tight at ALL -- but when my fingers shrink in the winter, they help prevent it from moving around.

Same here- they are great- the jeweler preffered trying them out first vs. cutting my band. They really worked out well.

Re: Should I resize my rings?
Get the balls! Here is a pic of mine. You can see that from the back of my hand you cant see them. And there is also a pic of my ring off of my hand.
Hmm Maybe I should get that.. When I got engaged last year FH got a ring size too big. The lady told me to wait until before the wedding before I resize it. So they put a ring guard on it. I broke my first one, and now the 2nd one they put on is already getting loose. If you want a cheap option just for the wedding, tri-country charges $5 for the ring guards!! For me because I use my hands a lot during they day, it lasted about 7 months

Re: Should I resize my rings?
I've actually heard that ring guards are bad for the ring because they can scratch the platinum or whatever other metal the ring is.

Re: What jeweler does 'shots'???
I have a ring guard on mine now--I already had it re-sized--but it was humid that day--so I thought it fit well--but it was still too loose so I refused to get it resized again (I had it done in Manhattan)--and when I got my appraisal, he told me to get rid of the guards and get the spring guards (aka shots)---not every jeweler does them or has even heard of them---can anyone reccommend a jeweler to go to for this as I'm on a mission to replace these ring guards which I also heard can bend the ring??? TIA

Re: Should I resize my rings?
I had lost alot of weight before my wedding (about 30 lbs) and went to my jeweler to have my e-ring and another special ring resized & he told me not to resize them but to get the shots put in which he did. My jeweler is Stefan at Elsa's (or anyone there). Stefan is the one who designed my wedding band! They are wonderful there.
