Should I still do the votive place-cards?

Should I still do the votive place-cards?

I e-mailed my banquet manager to make sure it was allowed...He said yes, but they try to discourage it. They stated that the place cards are placed by the door to the Coktail hour room (before) so people dont know what to do with them, and they have had issues with dripping wax etc.
I really really wanted them..I felt they were a nice touch and cheap..
Any suggestions????

I say stay with the original plan.
Someone suggested using tealights as opposed to votives. They may not have too much wax to drip.
My caterer said they light the candles 15 minutes before the cocktail hour and they tell the people to pick them up on the way out.
The caterer will then blow out the candles 15 min before cocktail hour ends so each guest can take them.

THANKS...Im going to show my BM this and she what he thinks... We are using the tealights versus the votives..I even thought we could do a small sign saying..please pick up on your way out? Because do they have somone standing there to tell people what to do? I guess I could ask my BM that...lol.
THANKS!

Just another note- the guests don't necessarily have to touch them at all. Technically it's all about the appearance.
When I first heard the idea, I assumed everyone would look at where they were sitting and just go to their table.
I went to a party where two waiters held a guest list and asked the guests their name and they told them where they were sitting. I also went to a party where they had a large poster on an easel where you looked for your name and table.
My point is ... people can look- and not touch if the caterer doesn't want them to drip.

It's much safer if they're blown out before cocktail ends anyway in case you have some candles towards the back that people might have to reach over to get.
I once burnt my hair blowing out the back candle first in my house

My FMIL just went to a wedding on Sunday, and couldn't stop on how beautiful her votive place cards were. The girl who got married said she specially asked that the table should be specially placed by the entrance to the main room.

How about not lighting them at all but providing matches for them to light them themselves? (I heard of this somewhere today...)
