should I stock up?

should I stock up?

I know Michele is stocking up on diapers. I have it written in my day book every week to start doing that...but I get 'stock up shy'. Like what do I buy? What is good to stock up on? I am really nervous about money on a regular basis, and don't like to spend a lot at one time...any suggestions on making the hit a little easier to swallow?

I dont think you should buy a HUGE supply of diapers since some babies outgrow the newborn size right away. and like in my case, his umb cord fell off AT the hospital, so thank goodness I didnt have many of those diapers with the space cut out for cord care...
Im sure you have enough of what you need. If you dont live too far away from the stores, it will be a nice break to get some fresh air and do some baby shopping while baby gets daddy-time.

Re: should I stock up?

I am a Costco type shopper by nature. I hate needing something and having to run out for it.

There are 2 types of thoughts on stocking-up on diapers
- some feel that you should try lots of different brands to find the one you like best
-Most everyone I know loves Pampers and I had a ton of 15% off coupons (plus manufactures coupons) so I just got those. I guess I am taking a chance, but that is okay with me. I don't know anyone who hated Pampers to the point of refusing to use them and if I have a real problem, then I can always donate them to a Church or something. And I have been getting multiple sizes not just newborn.
Anna- I don't think most baby's cord fall off in the hospital though- right? Most take a few days?

Wipes
-I got 1 case so far and plan on getting another 2-3 cases before the baby is born. Claud told me that was fine since you use them so quickly and they are sealed so they don't dry out.

Dreft-
-I don't know anyone who doesn't use Dreft for their newborn clothes/sheets and I am allergic to Ivory so the choice was easy for me. Costco has 200oz. bottles for $14.99 and that is A LOT cheaper than buying it in the store. I also got a small bottle (with a coupon of course ) to bring to my MIL's house in MA. I am sure I will need to do laundry up there for the baby during our visits.
I plan on getting another big bottle of it before the baby comes, maybe 2.

Sheets- I am waiting until after my shower but after that I will get myself a bunch more since I know the baby goes thru sheets quickly.

Clothes- I cannot stock up since I don't know if I am having a boy or girl- but you can get your little her snow bunting since it will be cold when you bring her home. I saw a great over the car seat type bunting too- so it wraps her up all warm and snug but she isn't physically put inside a huge snowsuit thing.

I am not stocking up too much on bottles and such since I am going to try to bf and also, babies really do have a preference with those things. I registered for 2 Playtex Nurser sets and will get a box of liners to have but that is it.

Anything else girls?

Michele - I didnt use Dreft on Emmas clothes when she was a newborn. I used ALL free and clear. No dyes or additives. Its for people with sensitive skin. That way we all used the same soap and it didnt matter if something of hers got stuck in our laundry.

Do you have receiving blankets??? They are SO handy!!!

Michele, nope, the cord falling off at the hospital almost NEVER Happens! The Dr's were even like 'HUH??????? WOW !!!!!!!! '

Re: should I stock up?

I never used Dreft either....we use ALl free and clear- and also Costco brand of detergent.

with now 2 redheads in the house I thought their skin would be too sensitive..but that is not the case...I just wash her clothes with an extra rinse. Maybe cuz I have a Neptune washer it's not a problem??

recieving blankets- I think the best are the Carter's..they have more 'body' to them

Sheets- I have 2 sets for home 2 sets for daycare. MORE THAN ENOUGH.

wipes- as long as they are sealed, they will keep. wipe warmers were all written up on epionions as a waste since they wind up drying up the wipes...au natural wipes right out of the container was not a prob for us

diapers...may want to try 2-3 brands to see how it works with your baby. I know many mos love Huggies...Julianne would wet right thru them...so we are a Pampers cuddlers/walmart white cloud diaper user.
This weekend we went to BJS and saw moms buying their brand. I asked them and all seemed to really like them. So, we bought. If it doesn't work for us, it was less than a case of name brands. Will donate them.

Michele, I just wanted to let you know that the 200oz. Dreft last a long time. You may only need one bottle. I am still on the same bottle and Annalise is almost 8 months old. Since I do her laundry separately, I only use two doses per week up to the lowest fill line (more loads in the first few weeks of course). When this bottle runs out she will be at least a year old, so I will use the same detergent for her and me.
