Should the rainy season stop me from going to Tahiti?

Should the rainy season stop me from going to Tahiti?

FH is at the travel agent as we speak - she recommended that we do not go to Tahiti in Jan because it rains 14 inches - i am so so devastated right now - i had my heart set on the fench polynesian islands -

should this stop us? What other exotic places are there that measure up to bora bora? We were looking at this HM as a once in a lifetime vacation - since we know when we come back we are going to start saving for our permanent house..

I'm just so right now .....

If their 'rainy' means monsoon.... you might want to postpone the trip until it's over....

You could try the Seychelles.

or you could go to Hawaii, it's never out of season, you don't need your passport, and you could go to one of the less touristy islands.

The travel agent says it rains in Hawaii also in Jan - not as much as Tahiti though...

I went to Hawaii in January 1999... It rained all of once and we went to the other side of the island (Oahu) where it was perfectly clear.

Find another travel agent.

Hi Atticaqt -

I know how you feel. January is a tough time honeymoon-wise to get married.

Maybe you can looked into:
Australia
South America
Schyelles Islands, or Zanzibar, Pemba, and Mafia Islands (off the coast of East Africa) ...
South Africa

Good luck and if you come up with anything good please share with me. I've having the same issues

I know EXACTLY how you feel. We want to go to Cabo for our honeymoon but of course September is the rainy month. We're still going anyway. It can't possibly rain every single day. Even so - we'll take out chances and make the most of it. You have to decide what you're willing to deal with. Good luck!

I have not been to Thailand but my friends have.
They love Phuket and Phi-phi island. I also hear Cosomui (sp) is beautiful. Thier pics are amazing!

Its super cheap and you can stay @ 5 * places for nothing!!!!!

Good luck

I would not go to Tahiti if my travel agent suggested against it.

ETA- go to Tahiti for your engagment anniversary. birthday or make an excuse up for a better time of year.

We are going to Vietnam and Cambodia in December. Many of our friends who have gone through South Asia, including Thailand, have said that December through March is the best time to go to South Asia. And as stated very cheap.

So funny because I ended up deciding on Tahiti because every other place I wanted was rainy or hurricane season. So I was thrilled when I found out Tahiti wasn't. Just FYI, I went to Hawaii for two weeks in January and I only saw rain once. I wouldn't book a place you know could be really rainy during your stay, that could be disasterous. Don't worry, there are lots of beautiful, exotic places out there!

Georgia-I would seriously look into going to Maldvies or Mauritius or the Seychelles Islands. They are even more beautiful than Tahiti (IMO) and very exotic and secluded islands. They are located in the Indian Ocean

FH and I were going to go to Maldives for our honeymoon until we discovered it's rainy season in June/July I was devestated b/c I had my heart set on going, but we are going to makeup for it another time.

Here are some websites for you to look into:

maldives

mauritius

We are going to Bali.
I am not sure what January weather is for them but it's worth looking into. We are going for 14 days and staying in 3 different parts of the island. Two stays will be at private villas and one stay will be at a scuba diving resort. It came out cheaper than Fiji and will still be a wonderful honeymoon.

An as for parts of Asia not being safe, really the world isn't safe and I am sure in Europe and other parts of the world their are travel warnings to the US. We can't live in a box. Life must go on in spite of the chaos around us.

Good Luck!

I completely agree- there have been no terror attacks in Asia the past year, but there have been in Europe. And living in the NYC area, we all know that anything can happen.

Monkeybride, your honeymoon sounds great!

You could also check out The Cook Islands which are off the coast of New Zealand, they are supposed to be just as beautiful as Tahiti and a cheaper. I went to Tahiti/Bora Bora in September which was the start of the rainy season and it didn't rain at all.
