Should we extend our HM??

Should we extend our HM??

Hey ladies,

need ur opinions. Fh and I are (like everyone else) on a tight budget with the wedding. We are paying for everything ourselves and I try very hard to stick to what we can afford. Well, we started talking last week about stopping off in Disney for a few days before coming home from the honeymoon. It was all just talk but my FH is now getting all into it and getting very excited. We sat down and figured out the money situation and surprisingly - we actually could afford it. We've done very well in other areas and saving that we could have enough to do it. But, I am having doubts about it bc I feel like we worked so hard to stay on point with the budget that this will be like just throwing it out the window! Plus the fact that we want to buy a house right after the wedding and could use extra $ there. So, do I say 'F*ck it, it's our HM - let's do it' or do I do the responsible thing and save the money. It is a decent amount for the trip. For 3 nights/4 days it is another $2500!!
What would you do?

Thanks for the help, I'm so torn!!

hmmmm.....well if I were you, i'd save that $2500 to go towards the house...you can go to disney after you have your house, your honeymoon will still be wonderful without it....how many days will your honeymoon be without disney?

i agree..maybe have another talk with FH and go over the pros and cons. You can always go to disney..even after u have kids! Maybe instead of taking another trip, splurge on another tour/attraction for ur first one.

A good amount of time 7 nights/8days. And we can't change that either. I was going to maybe end the first part a little early, but found out our 'package' and everything that we included we had to stay for that amount of time. I do feel like the $ could be used for something else, but Fh keeps saying that we are not going to take another big vacation again for awhile once we have the house and stuff and we should do it now

IMO, I would do it, only because once the HM is over, you say you're going to start saving for a house and not travel. We're pretty much in the same boat, and we're spending a lil more than we want to on the HM because it is the HM and after that is all for the house

I think you should save the $2500. I mean 3 nights 4 days It seem a little high. I am sure you can get it cheaper. But personally I would save it towards the house. And then later on you can go for a long weekend.

I would save it too. JMO - Disney is easy to get too, like someone else said, you could always plan a trip another time to do it. Just doesn't seem worth it to me, 2500 for only 3 days seems high.

And you never know with buying a house, the 2,500 could mean all new appliances for a kitchen or something major that you need, ie. u find the perfect home but the bathroom needs upgrading etc.

i agree. whether it's disney or any other place it's still your HM, you only do it once. Yeah you might go again someday with kids etc. but it won't be the same... IMO you have FOREVER to save for a house.

Maybe stay at a less fancy hotel in disney? I think you should do it, but I think 2500 is a lot for that amount of time. My FH and I went to disney this past summer, and there are affordable hotels. We honestly spent all our time at the parks, and when we came back to the hotel it was to sleep or do other indoor activities that don't require beautiful grounds! Just a clean room is necessary. Just my opinion. Hope it helps.

do it!!!!! You only get one HM, if it is close to what you can afford, do it. DH and I went on a 12 day HM, and althought it wasa bit pricey, we had an AMAZING time! loved every second and wouldn't change it for the world!

Personally I'd save the $2500 for now and take another trip later on, when you feel like you need a vacation again.

Well I love Disney so I say DO IT lol
but 2500 seems like A LOT!!!!
What all is included? For that much, it seemed like it should be like 2 weeks worth of WDW not just a couple of days!

Re: Should we extend our HM??

honestly don't extend your hm you at least budgeted for one. FH couldn't even fit it in our budget so we can't even go on one until months after the wedding.

We have all ready used our credit card to pay a second depo on our vendors and i am earning interest on those payments and working a second job to save money to pay it off. We are now finally paid off because many people are not showing up for the wedding so all that extra money we had saved can go to pay off those two bills.

We are putting all gift money away for a house and some of it also will go to my student loan and then we are using my second job and fh's overtime to save up for a good HM for the summer.

Does it suck - YES but we made the decision to have a wedding in a CH with good vendors and didn't sacrifice too much when planning it. We felt it was so important for us to share with our family our important day and make it a great wedding then go on a another vacation.

Remember a hm is not a measurement of success its a vacation to just share each other's time with after you get married. Most people 20 years ago didn't do what we do now they went to the falls or something local for a overnighter. Your better off with a home!

I was going to say that I think you should do it, but then when you said 2500 dollars extra, that sounded really high. If you were to say it was only 1000 extra I would say go for it. 2500 just sounds really expensive for Disney for only 3 nights. JMO. Good luck!!

I think you should go! $2,500 can be replaced. A LOT of expenses come after you buy a house. Have a good time, and enjoy. Who knows if you will be able to do a trip like this next year
Know what I mean?

Re: Should we extend our HM??

IMO you're already going on a trip and going to have a great time!! Look at all the exciting things you have to look forward to. I say bank the money and get the house. Go to Disney next year or later on and make it something new to look forward to.

Let us know what you decide.
