I just booked with Patken and I have seen great reviews and some not to great. We personally like their style alot. I would love if any Patken girls would show me your favorite shots as well as some bad examples. I just want to get an idea of what to tell them NOT to do!
Thank you in advance. Also if anyone has suggestions on who to request and who to avoid for the day-of photographer.

We used Jessie for our E-Pics and booked her for our wedding because we loved FSIL's pics from '06 these were a few of my favorite
CS aside you have to decide if that's your look. I noticed overall a lot of soft images lacking sharpness on focus and very heave post processing. If that's your style go for it

I think everyone looked beautiful in the ones I saw. I'm a hobbyist photographer and it's one of the most important things to me for my wedding. Aside from reputation I think finding someone who meshes with your style is important.

DH's cousin used them for her wedding in 2008 and the pictures were amazing!!! I loved all of them.

Yikes!! That makes me a bit nervous!! This is what I mean. I see awesome pics and reviews sometimes and other times eh? pics and less than great reviews. Hmm I am starting to worry if I chose the right company. I am an art director and have directed plenty of photoshoots, but I am not looking to work on my wedding day!
Can you tell me who your photographer was? My whole reason for choosing them was they seemed to have unique shots and well thought out ideas. Maybe I was fooled!
Are the wedding pics in your album the pro shots??

I don't know a lot of about them other than the reviews BUT one thing I can tell you is regardless of who you are using, if it's a company with more than one photographer, you need to be specific in your contract as to who you are getting as well as a plan b in the event that person is unavailable (ill, fired, resigns, emergency, etc) and also see the second person's work. I think in general people who are displeased with some vendors are a result of not getting what they expected or promised. I recently hired Thomas Paul based on reviews, his personality and his price. I also asked to see the work of the emergency back-up person. It ended up I added a second shooter and before agreeing wanted to see her work. No 2 photographers are alike and one may have sharper skills and another may be great with editing. Whoever you choose, have it all spelled out. Good luck

Thanks weare.. I was wanting to see Thomas Paul also. I am worried we might have jumped the gun. We signed the dotted line... so until we have our 1st shoot (we have 2 before the wedding) I will probably need to just put it out of my mind and hope that once we get the 1st shoot done, it will get rid of any doubts!

Patkin does beautiful work. the only think i dont like is that i feel that eveyone that has patkin has very similar pics. like the horizontal pic of the 2 close ups off to one side and then nothing on the whole ofther side. I had 2 save the dates on my fridge that were both patkin and they looked exactly the same.

Like with anything you have to tell the vendor what you are looking for. I have a few friends that used Patken (I am booked with them) and their pics are gorgeous! I am a big believer in giving them a list of what you want and being very clear (I guess that is the lawyer in me).
You can not assume that they are going to read your mind. I plan on having a list of pictures that are an absolute must and going through it with my DOC. This way there is no surprises.
I am getting my engagement pics done at the end of the month. They explained to me that if the person that does your engagement photos is not the actual photographer then you can redo them with your actual photographer. I am definitely going to do that so that I can see my actual photographer's work.

I completely agree with all this!! I have a huge list of MUST HAVE shots in the works... I am waiting till next month to get my e-pics done.. Hopefully this will ease my mind and our photographer will alleviate any concerns!! THANK YOU!

Your engagement pics are beautiful! This is exactly what I was hoping for and didnt get from my wedding. I know Patken is capable of nice work, and that is why I booked with them. I wrote that post to let you guys know what CAN happen if you just trust your vendor and dont go over all the specific details. I am very low maintenence and just believed my vendors would do right by me, and that was not the case. I dont think everyone should worry they are going to have trainwreck pictures like me. Just learn from my mistake and be very detailed and proactive with telling them what you want.
