After reading all of our debates on wedding gift amounts (how close you are to the couple; cost of plate; etc etc), How much do you spend when going to a shower for a friend?
Does that cost get subtracted from the wedding gift?

Re: Shower Amount Etiquette
You don't subtract it from the wedding gift.
I think most people gave me presents in the $50-$100 range.

well we were elementary friends, but we didn't really keep in touch, until recently since both of us are getting married.

Re: Shower Amount Etiquette
The shower gift is completely separate from the wedding gift, you shouldn't subtract from it.
Give what you can afford, don't feel pressured to give more than that. Look at her registry and find something that you feel comfortable with.

Re: Shower Amount Etiquette
okay, so I guess the base minimum is $50. Everyone I spoke with is giving her something worth $20...

Re: Shower Amount Etiquette
if i don't know you well enough $35-$50, if i know you somewhat $50-$75, if your someone special $75-$100 and if you were my god child more, etc.
Coworkers I would only give a cheaper item off the registry like $20 because honestly unless I hang with you reg. i think its silly to spend a lot.

Re: Shower Amount Etiquette
I think that it is important to get something that is thoughtful....price doesn't necessarily mean anything....but I would say no more than $50 if you aren't close to her.
