Shower Dilemma!

Shower Dilemma!

Oh no. It happened. So my mom told me that we had to limit the shower list (fine, no problem.) So I gave her a list of only family. She then said that I could add a couple of my closest friends from work. I put the four women on that I hang out with all the time. Well one of the other wedding guests I work with went to one of the four women and asked if she got a shower invitation being like 'well why didnt I?!' I don't know what the he ll to do now. Id ont want anyone to feel badly and I would love to have everyone there but my mom just can't afford it. My mom feels bad not inviting the women who were questioning why they werent invited but if she adds the two of them then the others will find out and it will just spiral. Any thoughts? I feel like such an a s s.

I'm sorry!! This can be so uncomfortable. I think you just need to be honest with the people not invited, and tell them the truth, that you had to keep the list very small due to budget. I had to cut down my shower list as well

Would you just call them and tell them? I have NO clue how to handle this!

You shouldn't feel bad, because technically you're not 'supposed' to know who ultimately gets invited, right? You just supply a list...and then it's up to your mom/BMs/etc. to use that list as they see fit. You can plead ignorance on this one...and if anyone really has the nerve to mention it to you, you can always say that it's a financial hardship for your mother to throw the shower and it's nothing personal.

No I wouldnt, maybe I would say something to the people who at your job were invited and if they talk to that person, they could let them know. Also I think it depends how close are you to that person who said that they never got an invite. You can explain it to her and I think they would understand!

I know youre right and it totally is because of finances NOT that I wouldnt want them there. I just don't know what to do..i feel bad for the friend that is invited that they approached too!

I think that you should be honest with her and inform her of the reason. If she is a good person she will understand!

sorry to hear - can you have your BM ship in?

My mom is probably going to pay for all of my shower but i am going to tell my BM to be responsible for favors, decorations, invites

i dont think you should worry. NOt that its a good thing, but you can always just blame it on your mom!

I think people will understand. Would they approach you about it or the people planning the shower?

Do you know when/where your shower is already? I bet it would be easier if you dind't know all the details.

i dont know anything. My mom called the women and explained to them that she had to cut the list down a lot and she invited family and then looked at th e list and invited just a few that she knew I saw a lot outside of work. I hope that smooths things over...she was SO trying to help..it was so cute.

Could you also just mention this to the few friends who were invited, so that if they are approached about it again, maybe they can pass along the word that the invite list for the shower had to be restricted due to budget?

Honestly you need to just talk to the lady.

Just say that you heard she was questioning her not being invited to the shower and that the guest list was EXTREMELY limited. Explain the situation to her. I'm sure she would understand. Any reasonable person should understand.

I had the same problem with our Engagement party. I had a very intense limit on the number of guests I could invite. And FH cousins weren't invited. It was immediate families, super close life long friends and the bridal party only. His one cousin was talking smack in the bar on night to other people. I found out about it... and went out of my way to explain to his brother (I never really saw him in the bar after that) why they weren't invited. He was more than understanding about it. And it put an end to the rumors that were going around about how I didn't want FH family members to be there and this and that. It was starting to get ugly. They even started making comments about 'well I hope I'm at least invited to the wedding, blah blah blah'.

Most often with these scenarios... honestly is the best! Just be upfront and explain things. If you have a good reason for something then they should totally understand. And if they don't well that's their close minded fault!

Personally I wouldn't mind not being invited to a shower... that's less money for me to spend. Ha ha.. since wedding planning, i'm becoming more of a cheapo where I was once an extravagant spender!
