Shower etiquette

Shower etiquette

I know that someone should not be invited to the shower if they aren't invited to the wedding. What if there is a case that there is only a civil ceremony and no church wedding? These girls are never given showers?
I can't help but make an analogy with baby showers. Women are invited and take gifts. How different is this situation?

I value your opinions and am anxious to hear if you have any experience or thoughts on the subject.

My sister had a destination wedding and we still invited all the ladies to the shower even though they were not invited to the wedding. Everyone understood that they weren't going to be invited to the wedding, I think people would understand more so when it's a civil ceremony.

I wouldn't invite anyone to my bridal shower that I didn't intend on inviting to the wedding. For some reason, it seems a little selfish:

I agree. However, you can't invite people to city hall to watch you sign papers. My question is, would it be inappropriate to give her a shower anyway, in this case a surprise 'luncheon'?
I brought up a baby shower because you aren't invited to witness the event , , yet a friend or relative often gives a shower to get the parents started off with the baby.

In this case, I think it would be just fine to have a shower since everyone will know there is just going to be a civil ceremony.
I think that the women will be honored that they will be invited to share in this part of the wedding celebration.

i think in this case, you can invite whomever you want. there was no reception so no one can get offended.

I agree- if there's no reception, then it's okay to invite women to a shower. After all, showers are not supposed to be planned by brides, so the bride really should have no involvement in the shower and can't possibly be offending anyone later on when she doesn't have a reception...

Although, with baby showers, aren't those guests invited to the Christening?

I agree. Have the shower for her.

Interesting point. I've been invited to baby showers without an invitation to the
Christening. Guess I need to be offended now. (Joking.)

Thanks for your responses everyone.
